The FAW DI program is hosting World Down Syndrome Awareness "Fun Sock" Day next Tuesday March 21st! You can either purchase fun socks from our Sockathon fundraiser to be worn on 3/21 OR you may bring in a $1 donation to FAW DI and wear your own fun socks! Under the leadership of our amazing Destination Imagination (DI) program coordinator, Mrs. Cacko, we had a super awesome SoMD DI Showcase event at FAW last weekend! The mission of DI is to "inspire and equip youth to imagine and innovate through the creative process." Our DI Day was full of core challenges, team building, and instant challenges. It was wonderful to see so many of our FAW DI graduates lead the activities! Thank you to all of our parent volunteers as well. Best wishes at the upcoming State DI Competition!

Over the weekend our students participated in the Archdiocesan Band Festival at Bishop McNamara. They did a wonderful job representing our school. Way to go!

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace..." Thank you to our National Junior Honor Society and Student Council Association members as well as their moderators who took the time to be good stewards!

This quarter, some of our middle school students are operating a school store. They are learning how to take inventory, markup items for profit, and manage the ins and outs of a business. The school store will be open every Wednesday during their elective class time. Items cost anywhere from 25 cents to $10. Please encourage your children to visit the school store! Kindly send in an envelope with money, marked with your child’s name and “School Store” so the middle schoolers know who to expect this week.

This fun and fanciful event is highly anticipated, as this is our first year back in person after a three year hiatus. Enjoy an evening out with friends, fellowship and a spirit of charity for our school!

We are excited to announce our raffle: we are raffling off FREE TUITION for ONE student for an entire school year! Thank you to the Knights of Columbus Council #1470 for helping sponsor this raffle! This raffle will kick off our whole event, which is followed by the Brown Bag Auction, that includes specially assembled, kid-themed baskets. The baskets will be on display at the school and students will have many opportunities to browse the baskets and vote for their favorites.

Friday, April 21, 2023 is our main event, which will be a cocktail party at the beautiful Fenwick Inn in Leonardtown from 6:00pm-9:30pm! Tickets are on sale NOW to attend the social event. The auction will be held online, so even if you cannot attend the event, you’ll be able to participate in winning the items for auction and the purchasing of the Tuition Raffle! This event is open to the public with the purchase of a ticket so please invite friends of Father Andrew White or family to join us for a fun evening out!

"Pediculosis Capitus"

These words may sound pretty serious, but this is actually the medical term for having those pesky little critters called head lice. The life cycle of lice includes three stages: eggs (nits), larvae, and adults. The nits are very hard to see, but basically look like little white flecks stuck to the hair. To distinguish them from dandruff or dirt, simply try to flick them off. Nits will not easily come off, as they are basically glued to the hair. In the adult crawling stage, the louse is about the size of a sesame seed and feeds on human blood, which leads to intense itching of the scalp.

Lice are transmitted through direct person to person contact, so it is important not to share brushes, hats, or headgear. However, lice can NOT fly or jump, and they only live one to two days when not on a human head.

Treatment for an infestation usually involves using a special shampoo and nit combs. Retreatment after 7 to 10 days is often recommended to ensure that no eggs have survived. Additionally, clothing and bedding should be laundered in hot water or dry cleaned to destroy lice and eggs.

It is important to remember that lice are a nuisance, but not dangerous; and having Pediculosis Capitus is nothing to be ashamed of. (In fact, in some ways, it almost seems like a rite of passage!)

Our Knights of Columbus, St. Mary's Council #1470 is in need of our help! They are looking for adults who are able to be Floorwalkers. The primary job is to walk up and down the tables and sell Holders to the bingo players. Volunteer hours can be earned from 6pm to about 9 or 9:30pm on Fridays at Father Andrew White School.
