We owe so much of our continued success in offering outstanding professional development opportunities and advocacy to the giants on whose shoulders we stand. Each of them has left an indelible mark on our hearts and the path we walk. Today, we honor the memory of one such giant, José Hernández, former TABE Executive Director and a passionate advocate for bilingual education. We will be forever grateful to him por abrir el camino que nos llevó a seguir sus pasos. Descansa en paz, José. Nosotros continuamos con tu incansable labor.
Like any other family, we celebrate joy and sorrow together. We can't wait to see our TABE Familia come together to learn, connect, and celebrate the power of languages and cultures at the Kalahari. ¡Nos vemos en Round Rock next week!

HONORING A CHAMPION OF BILINGUAL EDUCATION, JOSÉ HERNÁNDEZ
We at TABE are profoundly saddened by the loss of José Hernández, who served as our executive director for ten impactful years. His unwavering commitment to promoting bilingual education and advocating for equal educational opportunities transformed countless lives and left a lasting mark on the students and families he served. José's efforts to desegregate schools and champion bilingual programs were instrumental in fostering inclusivity and diversity in education, setting a standard for future generations.
Throughout his esteemed career, José exemplified dedication, resilience, and a passion for learning. His love for teaching and unwavering belief in the power of education inspired all those around him. As we honor his legacy, we are reminded of his invaluable contributions and the profound influence he had on the field of education. MASBA AWARD
On September 13th, 2024, during the Mexican American School Board Association Gala, the Aldine ISD Multilingual Parent Leadership Academy received the MASBA Civis Award. The mission of the Parent Leadership Academy is to support the Emergent Bilingual families and community with a pragmatic curriculum and instructional delivery. The goal is to supplement the District’s vision of “strengthening partnerships with families and communities” by reaching the parents of emergent bilingual students across the Aldine community and provide them with the motivation, tools and resources needed to succeed in life. We are very proud of this initiative and look forward to its continuous growth.

BESO CORNER
Message from Marcy A. Peña, TABE BESO Representative
Hola, espero que estén listos para el próximo semestre. Volver a la rutina y encontrar el equilibrio entre la escuela y la vida personal puede ser un poco difícil al principio, pero con organización, todo es posible.
Organization
Staying organized from the start of the semester is key to managing your workload and reducing stress. Begin by setting up a detailed calendar that includes all important dates, such as assignment deadlines, exams, and any extracurricular commitments. Break down larger tasks into smaller, manageable steps, and prioritize them based on their urgency. Make use of planners, digital tools, or apps to keep track of your daily to-do lists and goals. Establishing a routine early on will help you stay on top of your coursework and give you the confidence to tackle the semester with a clear and focused mind.
BESO Community
We’re all in this together. Lean on your fellow BESO members for encouragement and advice. Stay active in BESO throughout the semester by participating in socials, attending general meetings, and engaging in any events or activities we offer. Our community is here to support you every step of the way, and staying involved will help you build strong connections and a reliable support system. Together, we can overcome any challenges that come our way and make the most of our time in BESO.

Project LEAP UP
Project to Certify In-service Teachers in Bilingual Education and ESL at UTEP
Learning, Encouraging, And Planning to Uplift Performance (Project LEAP UP) is the name given to the project born out of a crucial need identified by Dr. Josefina V. Tinajero and school district personnel to certify in-service teachers in Bilingual Education or ESL. As the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Tinajero envisioned Project LEAP UP as a vital collaboration between the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and key partners such as the Texas State Education Agency (TEA), Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE), Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL), Headstart and Early Headstart El Paso, Education Service Center (ESC) Region 19, and 4 Independent School Districts (ISDs): Canutillo (CISD), El Paso, (EPISD), Ysleta (YISD), and Socorro (SISD). This collaboration is not just a project funded by OELA but a mission to uplift the educational opportunities for English Learners (ELs).
