Message From Mr. Pertzborn
Dear Lodi Middle School Students and Families,
At Lodi Middle School, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where every students feels valued and supported. To strengthen our community's understanding of bullying prevention and intervention, we recently hosted a joint middle and high school presentation focused on defining bullying, explaining district policies, and sharing strategies to prevent and address bullying. During the presentation, we clarified that bullying involves repeated, intentional harmful behavior where there is an imbalance of power and discussed the various forms it can take, including physical, verbal, social, and cyberbullying.
The session also highlighted our district's policies on bullying and harassment, including the procedures for reporting incidents and steps we take to address them. We emphasized that bullying is never tolerated in our schools and explained how our staff works to investigate reports, support affected students, and implement appropriate interventions. Additionally, we discussed the many proactive measures we used to prevent bullying, such as teaching empathy, promoting positive behavior, and direct lessons on bullying in both Life Skills and Advisory.
We truly appreciated the opportunity to connect with parents and answer their thoughtful questions. Your ongoing involvement and feedback are essential in helping us to foster a positive and supportive school climate. For those who were unable to attend, you can access the presentation through this link. As always, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring that every students at Lodi Middle School can thrive.
Take care and see you soon!
Derek Pertzborn

Student and Family Information
Forward Exam
Students of the Lodi Middle School will be participating in the Wisconsin Forward Exam from April 7-17. The Wisconsin Forward Exam tests students in English/Language Arts and Math in grades 6 through 8. In addition, students in 8th grade will be assessed in Science and Social Studies. One or more subtests may be administered daily during the identified timeframe and it is very important that your son or daughter be in school during this time. Students not in school on the scheduled days will be scheduled for a make-up test prior to the close of the testing window.
Attached is an Informational Brochure for Families which gives more information about the assessment including its purpose, what scores will be provided, and how the scores will be used. The Wisconsin Forward Exam measures the knowledge and skills your student(s) should have acquired by the time they reach each grade level. Their performance on the assessment will not affect any of their current grades. Please encourage your student to take the test seriously and do the best they can. The results of these tests will be used to help school staff make determinations or placement in classes to best support your child(ren).
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your student’s teacher.
How to Support My Child in Middle School
Middle school can be an exciting but sometimes challenging time for students as they navigate new experiences, academic expectations, and social changes. It's important for parents to stay tuned in to their child's mental and emotional well-being. Watch for signs of stress, anxiety, or bullying, such as changes in mood, sleep patterns, or appetite, and encourage open communication about how they're feeling. Helping your child develop healthy coping strategies - like taking breaks, practicing mindfulness, or staying active - can make a big difference. If additional support is needed, don't hesitate to reach out to school counselors, teachers, or community resources. Together, we can ensure that every student feels safe, supported, and ready to thrive.
Things to Ask Your Kids....(3 Questions Each Month)
Here are three questions to ask your teen this week to get them to open up:
1. What is something you look forward to about school?
2. If you could give advice to a younger student starting middle school, what would you say?
3. If you could plan a perfect weekend, what would it look like?

Initiative is a trait that sets individuals apart, and these students have demonstrated a sense of responsibility and drive that is truly commendable. Taking on initiative means that a student takes care of what they need to without being told. Taking initiative is a skill that helps people to reach their goals because they take action. Students that take initiative take control of opportunities that help to set them up for success. These student's willingness to take on challenges with enthusiasm and determination serves as a model for their peers.

6-12 - Band/Choir Concerts
In early March, we held our very first 6-12 combined concerts, featuring both band and choir, bringing together middle school and high school musicians for an unforgettable evening of music. The event showcased the talents of students across grade levels. It provided our younger musicians a glimpse of what's ahead as they continue to their musical journey at Lodi High School. From power performances to moments of learning and encouragement, it was a fantastic opportunity to build excitement about staying involved in music.
Special thanks to Middle School Band Director - Ashley Gulbranson and Middle School Choir Director - Angela Roberts for all of their hard work to prepare students for the shows!

Lodi Middle School Celebrates National Cereal Day
In honor of National Cereal Day on March 7, 2025, Lodi Middle School students came together for an incredible cereal collection drive to support Reach Out Lodi. Thanks to their generosity and teamwork, a total of 330 boxes of cereal were collected. To celebrate their achievement, students built a jaw-dropping domino-style cereal box around the hallway, which toppled in an exciting chain reaction. Every box collected will help to brighten the day of someone in need in our community. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated and made this event such a success!

Message from LCAT
The Lodi Community Action Team (LCAT) was established in 2007 to address alcohol use among teens in the Lodi area. Over time, LCAT began to analyze the data collected in the community and assess actual events. This led to efforts to educate the community about the dangers of risky behaviors and promote a safer environment for our children.
In the winter of 2024, a strategic plan was developed to guide LCAT's initiatives. This plan is built on three key pillars: engage, empower, and elevate. With these pillars in mind, we aim to fulfill our mission of empowering our school and community to prevent youth substance use through education, environmental prevention strategies, and fostering connections with caring adults. Our quarterly newsletter is a way to share projects, events, trainings, and meetings.

Message From School Nurse
Measles Information :
Measles has been a concern in other states but not currently in Wisconsin. It is important to share some basic information ahead of time in case there are cases in Wisconsin.
How is is spread:
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that can lead to serious complications, especially in infants and young children.
Measles is spread through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.
Measles can also spread by contact with contaminated surfaces.
Prevention:
The best prevention is to receive 2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine. The first dose is recommended 12-15 months of age and the dose between 4-6 years old.
If immunity decreases or a person has never received the MMR vaccine, then it can be given to anyone 12 months or older, with the doses separated for at least 28 days.
MMR vaccines usually protect people for life against measles and rubella. For mumps it may decrease over time.
If you ever would want to check your child(s) or for your immediate family you can ask your provider or if vaccines given in the state of Wisconsin then you can check the states WIR website
For more information: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/immunization/measles.htm
Illness:
A friendly reminder with any virus to keep your child home until they are 24 hours vomit, diarrhea, and/or fever free without fever reducing medications. Also, when your child(s) symptoms also must be improved to return to school. If you have any concerns and are not sure to send your child(s) to school then please feel free to contact health services with any questions.
Your child has an appointment?
If your child(s) has an appointment such as a medical or dental appointment during the school day then please ask them to fax the school excuse during that time and drop it off at the school office when your child(s) return. This would count as an excused absence. If your child(s) was seen at the urgent care or emergency room then please have the provider write a school excuse if missing any days of school and if they are needing an excuse that requires restrictions at school.
