Greetings
Dear Bruin Families and Students:
Our attendance campaign continues at BHS! It has been about a month since we renewed our efforts to get students here on time and in attendance each and every day. Click HERE for my opening attendance campaign notification and the CALL TO FAMILIES and STUDENTS to help! While BHS has a regular average daily attendance percentage of 95% (95% of students are in attendance), which is the same as 2019 (pre-COVID pandemic), we have seen the percentage of students chronically ABSENT from school double from 7% in 2018-2019 to 14.5% in 2023-2024.
Check out this recent article that discusses how a school can still have a high daily attendance rate (good news) but also have a high chronically absenteeism rate (bad news). This is where we are at BHS and in many other suburban schools. We need your help in getting kids to school on time and in school on a daily basis. We are here to help and will work with students and families to problem-solve the issues keeping kids from getting to school. If we haven’t reached out already, please contact your student’s counselor, assistant principal, or me at tom_hall@bcsd.org, and we will work together to fix this ever-growing problem. Check out the attendance campaign letter to learn about our efforts and interventions to decrease our rate of chronically absent students and students coming late to school.
