Our new schedule this year makes attendance crucial for students' academic success, and it's extremely important they attend bell to bell. We are seeing a number of students in the building, but not attending their whole classes. We want to remind you that we have multiple codes for attendance:
Arriving to class marked VL (very late)
Leaving early without permission, or asking to leave early for another reason
Missing class entirely
As you look at your student’s attendance in ParentView please ask your student about any attendance codes that may be coming up. If you need help signing up for ParentVue please do not hesitate to call Sheldon High School and we can help set that up for you.

Most Common Bell Schedule
As you might recall, all students in grade 11 are provided time to complete the Oregon State Assessments. These assessments provide important information and feedback for our administrators, teachers, and families. State tests are one measure we use to examine student academic success as well as how we are doing as a school system in helping students understand basic knowledge and skills.
The state tests include assessments in English Language Arts, Math, and Science. Each test varies in length. This year, Sheldon is working to provide each student with a testing window that will minimize regular class time disruption and maximize student achievement on the tests.
Links to the forms can be found on the Sheldon Website, Sheldon’s Main Office and the 4j District Website.
Hazardous Weather
Winter weather is on its way! Here is some key information families need to know.
When hazardous weather is a concern, decisions regarding schedule changes are made in the early morning, before school, when current weather conditions can be assessed. Decisions are made districtwide and are the same for every 4J school.
Our main concern is the safety of our students and staff. We also believe students and families are best served when schools are open. We will always do our best to make the best decision possible, taking into account all of the factors.
How To Find Out: If there is a change in the school schedule or bus routes, it will be announced in several ways, all normally before 6:30 a.m., including:
- Check the district website: Information will be posted on the homepage, 4j.lane.edu.
- Follow 4J social media: A notice will be posted on the following social media channels:
- Facebook page: facebook.com/4Jschools
- X (formerly Twitter) accounts: @4Jschools and @4Jweather
- Local news media will share closure or delay information on their websites and broadcasts.
- Information in Spanish: Información en español, 541-790-7738
NO NEWS = NO CHANGE. If there is a change in the school schedule or bus routes due to inclement weather, Eugene School District 4J will announce the change. On days when school is in session and on regular schedule, DO NOT expect the district to make an announcement.
Snow Routes: Parents of students who ride school buses that sometimes use snow routes have been informed of what to do when snow routes are in effect. Snow route information is available on the snow routes page.
Delayed Starts and Early Dismissal: The district generally will avoid delayed starts and early dismissal due to weather. However, it is possible that unpredictable or sudden weather conditions will require such a decision to be made.
Delayed start times will not alter school dismissal times. If the delayed start occurs on a Friday, early release times will be the same as if there was no delay.
School Choice
4J residents can Click here to fill out a lottery request form starting January 1, 2024.
School Choice Request Periods:
- 4J resident transfer requests can be submitted: January 1-31, 2024; Lottery will be held February 15
- Non-4J resident transfer requests can be submitted: March 1–31, 2024; Lottery will be held April 15
- Post-lottery transfer requests: May 1, 2024 – June 1, 2025; students added to waitlist in order of request received
School Visits and Information Sessions: Learn about your neighborhood school and more! Each school will hold at least one virtual and two in-person visit and make available a recorded information session during the month of January. You are encouraged to research school programs before making a choice, but you are not required to attend a virtual visit for your child to be given a seat at that school.

Sheldon Community Responder
A Sheldon Community Responder is a volunteer that responds to “alerts” sent by the 15th Night Coordinator for needs specific to SHS students that have not been met by internal school resources. These type of alerts would be for items such as clothing, shoes, small household items, food or bedding.
A Sheldon Community Responder would receive a text message indicating a need. If the Responder can provide the need, they respond to the text message and work with the SHS Coordinator to secure and deliver the item.

Bike Theft
Given the prevalence of bike theft in our community, we encourage you to follow these tips to reduce the risk of bike theft:
- Always lock your bike, even if you're just leaving it for a minute.
- Lock to something secure, not something like a chain link fence that is easy to cut through.
- Do not leave your bike locked at school overnight.
- Lock with a U-lock, not a cable lock.
- Lock the bike through one of the triangles of the frame, not through the wheel, as that can easily be removed.
----
