Words with Miss Renee
Earlier this week, a father and daughter came to visit in the evening. They played nearly every game in our activity room. I could hear them laugh when she beat him. I heard him calmly explain various strategies. They had the place to themselves and weren't distracted. Another thing I love about this space is that it offers a place for adults and kids to connect without the temptations we might find around home.
With last night's blue moon (which was so cool!) and the upcoming eclipse this April, your child might have an extra dose of astronomy-related questions! We have lots of great books to help.
Have a wonderful long weekend, everyone! While raising children is definitely a labor of love, that labor (much like our work life) needs to be celebrated and honored with more time together!
Yours in literacy and in life,

Early Chapter (EC Car)
A laugh-out-loud new illustrated chapter book series celebrating the roller coaster highs and lows of life in a second grade classroom.
Buddy has a good feeling about second grade. He knows where to go, his best friend is in his class, and he’s ready for a great year. And then Bea shows up—new, tardy, and showing off brand new stitches. Buddy was not expecting Bea.
Bea's fast talking and upside-down thinking leave Buddy feeling buzzy—and with his hair full of mayonnaise. How will he and Bea ever figure out how to get along in the same classroom community?
Juvenile PIcture Book (JP Sci)
Oliver the tortoise has had his human, Ike, for a very, very long time now. In fact, they're the same age—80 years old—and practically twins. They both enjoy the slowness of the garden, cool water from the hose on a hot day, and a nice slice of honeydew melon. But when Ike stops visiting the garden, Oliver wonders why his pet has left him so soon. So he makes the long journey to see his mother ten gardens away—she will certainly have the answer. This tender story from the author and illustrator that brought us Memoirs of a Goldfish reminds us to cherish all the days we have with our pets and loved ones.
Ready Reader Level 3 (RR Lvl 3 Ame)
American Girl Addy(TM) fights for freedom during the Civil War in this all-new Step 3 Step into Reading leveled reader that takes place in 1864--and includes an Addy poster!
