Dear Families,

What a great week at the nest! We wrapped up the week with the monthly student reward. Students had the option to vote for neon day or blacktop dance party with their earned owl tickets for postive behavior. Blacktop dance party won and the weather could not have been more perfect.

We want to thank the PTA for organizing and hosting the Earth Fair/Book Fair last week, it was a great success. Additionally, thank you to the Olive community for donating bags upon bags of food for the Wheeling Township Food Pantry and local businesses for hosting our 5th graders during World of Work. We are grateful for community partnerships that provide meaningful experiences for our students.

The entire OMS population celebrated Poem In Your Pocket Day sponsored by the library media center on Thursday. As students entered the building, they read poems that were chalked on the sidewalk by CAP program helpers. Every student carried several copies of a favorite poem in a pocket. Students selected their own poems to share. Some were written by famous poets and others by the students themselves. During designated trading times during the day, announcements were made to encourage students to share and trade their poems either among their own classmates or with students in other grade levels.

OMS welcomed poet/presenter, Cin Salach, whose visit was generously sponsored by our PTA. Ms. Salach met with each grade level to celebrate poetry and to encourage students to try writing some of their own. Students chanted poems out loud as a group and clapped out rhythms. Some grabbed the microphone and shared their newly created poems in front of the grade level audience. Hopefully, this day will be one to remember for our students!
