Hawk Happenings

Be Not Afraid!
Good Afternoon Hawk Families,
It's hard to believe that today is the last full day for our seniors! Next week they have their finals and Graduation practice. I spent time today with the seniors having conversations with them about this year, their time here at Gibault, what they've enjoyed, how we can make Gibault better, and a bit of my faith journey with them. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations, and I know they are excited for what's to come!
Prom and Post Prom were a great success last weekend! Congratulations to Grace Barrett and Andy Altes who were crowned Queen and King at "A Night Under the Lanterns" 2024 Prom! Thank you to Mrs. Knittig, the Junior Prom Committee, the Post Prom Committee, and all who worked the night of Post Prom! Both Prom and Post Prom went well and were a lot of fun! I know there was a lot of time and effort put into both events, so the students greatly appreciated it!
Our Spring Concert was held on Sunday evening. Our Concert Band, Chorus, Hawkapellas, and Jazz Band put on a great performance. Great job to Mr. Ruppel and all the musically gifted students!
Thank you to all who donated for our 2 drives that we were holding this week! The Students for Life Club collected new baby gear for Life Network and the class that brought in the most by today will be rewarded with an ice cream treat. Also, thank you to those who dressed down in support of St. John the Baptist in Red Bud. We collected $285.20 for St. Johns and will be sending that their way.
The Post season for our spring sports started yesterday with girls track. Congratulations to the girls track team for an outstanding effort at sectionals and qualifying for state in the 4x200. Members of the 4x200 team are: Natalie Kelemetc, Kadence Lance, Bri Baldridge, and Emily Richardson.
Good luck to all our spring athletic teams who are heading into the post seasons! Here are the details: Girls Soccer-first game of Regionals tonight; Softball team-first game of Regionals Monday, Baseball team-first game of Regionals Wednesday; Boys Track-Boys sectionals on Thursday.

From the Desk of Mr. Montgomery
Monday, May 6 saw the track team at Nashville, where they were able to compete despite the incessant rain. On the bright side the barges aren’t scraping the bottom of the Mississippi anymore, but I digress. Meanwhile, back at Nashville, Junior Ryan Biffar took 1st in the 400 meters, and 2nd in the 100 meters. Sophomore Austin Stern took 2nd in the 800 meters, freshman Oscar Gedris took 3rd in the discus, and the 4x4 team of Ryan Biffar, Oscar Gedris, Austin Stern, and Jacob Steingruby took 3rd in the men’s 4x4.
Tuesday, May 7, and Wednesday, May 8 were both washouts, with all sports cancelled due to unplayable conditions.
Thursday, May 9 saw the girl’s track team in action at the Nashville Sectional Tournament, where the 4x200 team of Natalie Kelemetc, Kadence Lance, Bri Baldridge, and Emily Richardson not only set a school record, but also qualified for the state tournament. In addition, school records were set in the 4x100, the 4x400, the 200 meters, and the long jump. It was an outstanding display by the talented Lady Hawks track team. Thursday also found the Lady Hawks softball team in action at Father McGivney, where they came away with a convincing 14-2 win against the Griffins, while the boys JV baseball team finished their season at 9-7 with a 3-0 shutout of the Bulldogs from Sparta.
Friday, May 10 has the boys track team at the Gillespie Invitational, varsity baseball at Carlyle, Softball at Dupo, and the Lady Hawks soccer team competing at Althoff against Metropolis at 6:00PM in regional play.
Saturday, May 11 is the Monroe County Baseball Tournament, which will have the Hawks squaring off against their cross-town rival Waterloo Bulldogs at 10:00AM at SPPS Field, with their senior recognition ceremony following the game.
