Will County School District 92
October 2024
Superintendent Update
Dear Will County School District 92 Community,
As the leaves turn vibrant shades of red and gold, and the crisp autumn breeze fills the air, we want to wish you a very happy fall! The first month and a half of the school year has flown by, and we are incredibly grateful for your partnership and support during this time. Your involvement has made a significant difference in our students' transition back to school.
October is an exciting month packed with meaningful events and fun activities. We are proud to announce that we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 28th to November 1st. This annual event promotes making healthy choices and living a drug free lifestyle. Throughout the week, students will have the option to participate in themed dress up days to reinforce the importance of these messages. All four schools will participate in the same themed days. A district flyer can be found in this newsletter. Your child's school will also be sending home information about the optional dress up themed week.
Additionally, we'll be embracing the festive spirit with some spooky fun on October 31st! Students in grades PreK - 5 are welcome to wear their favorite costumes (please ensure they are school appropriate) and our Oak Prairie friends are encouraged to wear black and orange on October 31.
October 31st is a school improvement day so please mark those calendars for early dismissal:
Ludwig and Oak Prairie dimissal is at 10:55 AM
Walsh and Reed dismissal is at 11:55 AM
Once again, thank you for your continuous support and collaboration. We look forward to sharing these wonderful experiences with you and your children as we continue to learn and grow together.
Stay well,
Kirsten Frankovich, Ed.D

D92 Committed to Safety
Please be assured that the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority every day. Recently, there has been an unfortunate trend of threats being made against local school districts. We continue to work closely with both the Lockport Police Department and the Will County Sheriff’s Department to assess any situations brought to our attention. We encourage parents and guardians to discuss with their child(ren) the serious consequences of making false threats, as these are both criminal offenses and subject to significant disciplinary actions.
The safety and security of our students and staff are always our highest priority. We value transparency, and if a credible threat or potential danger is identified, we will inform the community as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so. If you or your child comes across a threatening post on social media, please do not repost it. Instead, take a screenshot of the post and contact the police department to allow them to investigate further.
We are grateful to our families, students, and staff for maintaining open communication and for promptly reporting concerns. Your partnership is essential to keeping our community safe.
Thank you for your continued support in safeguarding our schools.

October Board of Education Meeting & Public Hearing
October 15, 2024 @ 7:00 PM in the Ludwig Band Room
Our next regular Board of Education meeting will be held on October 15, 2024, in the Ludwig Band Room. In addition to our regular agenda, this meeting will host a public hearing regarding the adoption of our E-Learning Plan. This public hearing is a critical step in the process of adopting the updated E-Learning Plan and obtaining approval from the Will County Regional Office of Education. E-Learning Plans must be renewed and approved every three years. Currently, our E-Learning Plan has expired, meaning we do not have an active plan in place at this time. We are excited to work with our talented educators, Board of Education, and community to finalize a plan that will support the continued education of our students during unforeseen emergencies. Thank you for your support.

Staff Spotlight
Meet Nick Jones, maintenance, from Walsh School
What do you enjoy most about working in D92?
I am a former District 92 student and have lived close to Walsh since the late 1980s. It’s satisfying to be able to give back to the district and my own neighborhood. The variety of work is also nice. Each season brings different challenges and responsibilities which keep the job fresh.
What's your favorite hobby?
My favorite hobby is visiting record stores and collecting music. Digital media is certainly convenient but nothing beats physical media.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
I am going to go with an administrator on this one and say former District 92 Principal Bill Barney. Mr. Barney was my principal when I attended Ludwig where my mom was also his secretary. Years later I would work for Mr. Barney too when I moved from a custodial role at Walsh to maintenance at Reed. My long standing relationship and familiarity with Mr. Barney was beneficial as I took on a new role with the district.
Meet Kelly Potrawski, preschool teacher, from Walsh School
What's your favorite part about being a member of D92?
My favorite part about being a member of D92 is the commute! On a more serious note, I enjoy the community. I enjoy how approachable everyone is and the opportunities we are able to provide our students. The willingness there is to discuss what is needed to offer the best practices to our students. The support I am given by my team on a daily basis!
What do you love most about our students?
I LOVE the enthusiasm and curiosity our students bring each day. Working with the littlest learners, I am able to see the wonder and amazement new experiences bring them. I enjoy watching their personalities unfold throughout the school year and their independence grow.
Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
I think many people already know this about me, but Disney World is my family's happy place! We have been blessed to be able to vacation there many times over the years and we all just have the best time together. Just this past winter we were able to surprise our girls with a surprise trip over New Year's Eve. We rang in the new year in EPCOT...so much fun! The memory of my family enjoying a silent disco together is one I will cherish forever
Meet Kristin Grahovec, social worker, from Ludwig School
What do you love most about our students?
I love watching our students grow and utilize the tools they are taught through our SEL curriculum and social work services. Each day brings something new. I love that no two days in education are the same. Even on some of the most challenging days there are always signs of something more positive.
How do you define success?
Success comes when you can reflect on the impact you have made on those around you whether it be the students or colleagues.
Why did you join D92?
I joined District 92 after providing social work services through a special education cooperative for 3 years. At the time I was travelling to 7 schools in one week. I decided to make a change and was looking for a more consistency. As I moved from building to building, I realized I was missing many great aspects of being a school social worker. I wanted to be part of a community and be able to provide support to students and staff on a more consistent basis. As I reflect back to my time before D92, I realize how fortunate I am to work in District 92.
Meet Erica Barrett, school psychologist, from Oak Prairie
What's your favorite part about being a member of D92?
My favorite part of being a member of D92 is our tight knit community. Being able to work in the community I live in, alongside the educators that immediately impact my own children, is such an honor and privilege. I love that my children come home from school and feel cared for, valued and loved by their teachers. As the expression "It takes a village" implies, my favorite part of working here is that I know that I am helping educate and mold the children in our community, just as my colleagues are helping me raise my own children.
What's your favorite memory in D92?
Some of my favorite memories in D92 are with our former Ludwig principal, the late Carol Koch. She was the mama-bear to her staff, and sometimes she would say things so directly and I would laugh. Everyone else was thinking it, but she was brave enough to say it! She had very high expectations of her staff, but she always looked out for all of us.
What's your favorite food?
Anyone who knows me knows that my favorite food is pizza. I've (almost) never met a pizza I didn't like.
