Helping families stay connected to Bend-La Pine Schools
Celebrate Classified Employee Appreciation Week
Bend-La Pine Schools is served by almost 900 classified employees who clean and maintain buildings, cook and serve meals, drive buses, support students in the classroom, ensure technology is performing well, answer phones and greet families and so much more.
The week of March 3, we celebrate all of the support staff members and their contributions during National Classified School Employee Appreciation Week!
“Our classified staff includes bus drivers, nutrition staff, custodians, hundreds of dedicated individuals working on the front lines and behind the scenes every day. They are essential to fulfilling our mission and ensuring the success of every student. We are deeply grateful for their talents, dedication, and the care they show in nurturing our students and school communities,” said Superintendent Steve Cook. “Thank you for being an important part of our district family.”
Support staff by the numbers:
- Bend-La Pine Schools is home to 892 classified employees – a wide range of staff members including office staff, custodial, maintenance, transportation, Information Technology, educational assistance, Nutrition Services and more.
- Ninety bus drivers in our Transportation Department traveled 1,708,354 miles last school year. They transport an average of 4,247 students each morning and afternoon covering 86 bus routes across approximately 1,600 square miles.

Bond Project Update: Bend Senior High
Big things are happening on our classroom build at Bend Senior High School. Concrete is being poured, and the first wall is going up. Before long we will see a massive steel structure rise three stories high. It’s fun to watch the progress on this community-funded, four-year transformation of the home of our Lava Bears. Thanks to Kirby Nagelhout Construction Company and all the crews who have worked through this winter!
