Read-athon Updates!
Kennerly Families,
We’re 5 days into the Readathon, and there’s still plenty of time to jump in and make a big impact! Whether you’re looking for tips on how to ask for sponsors or creative ways to complete your reading activities, we’ve got you covered with tips below.
Important Update for the Readathon on 10/25:
There has been a change of plans for our Readathon event on 10/25. While we will no longer be offering a signup for parents or guardians to visit and read with their students, we’re excited to announce that students can bring a stuffed animal from home to read to during the event. This will make for a fun and cozy reading experience for all!
Schedule of Readathon Events:
Biggest Grade Level Jump:
The student with the biggest increase in their reading level over the weekend will receive a "Love to Read" slap bracelet!Parent Share Challenge (Tuesday, 10/22)
If your parent or guardian shares about the Readathon 5 times via text message on Tuesday, you’ll win a fun animal-shaped eraser!
Bingo Challenge (10/25):
Any student who completes a Bingo on their family bingo card (5 squares in a row) or more will get to spin for a prize on 10/25.
How to Get Started:
Tips for Asking Sponsors:
- Be Confident and Clear: Let your family, friends, and neighbors know that you’re reading to support your school. A simple, direct pitch works wonders!
Example Elevator Pitch:
"Hi! I’m participating in a readathon to help support my school, and I’m looking for sponsors. I’ve committed to completing a [reading challenge or time commitment], and you can pledge any amount to support my efforts. Every donation helps our school raise funds for our classroom, field trips and much more. Would you be willing to sponsor me?"
- Leverage Social Media: Post about your Readathon on your social media accounts. Include photos of you reading or share a link to your pledge page.
- Follow Up: If someone hasn’t responded yet, a friendly reminder can make all the difference.
Fun Reading Activities to Get You Inspired:
There are so many fun ways to reach your reading goals! Here are a few ideas:
Option 1: Complete the 25-Square Bingo Card
You can complete multiple squares in one reading activity! For example:- Read a blue book, in your pajamas, to a stuffed animal. That’s 3 squares in one go!
- Read outside, to a pet, for 15 minutes and enjoy the fresh air while reading. That's 2 squares!
Option 2: 60-Minute Reading Challenge on October 25th.
Students will participate in a 60-minute reading challenge during school hours on 10/25. Students can request pledges for every minute they read during this dedicated time.
Option 3: Pledge to Read 30 Minutes for 5 Days
Read for 30 minutes each day for 5 days, then finish with the 60-minute readathon, totaling 120 minutes of reading!
It’s not too late to ask for sponsors or dive into your reading goals. Every page you turn supports our school, and we can’t wait to see what you achieve!
Stay tuned for some special surprises and incentives being rolled out next week as we continue to cruise towards CRUSHING our Read-athon goals!
Thank you for your efforts and happy reading!
