MAP: Measures of Academic Progress
This week, the MAP® Growth™ Family Report will be sent home. This is a summary of how your child is performing academically, as measured by the most recent MAP Growth test your child has taken. These tests and scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.
MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly.
Please contact your child's teacher with any questions about your child's MAP results. You can also click the button below to access a short video explaining more about MAP testing.

Welcome to CAPTURING KIDS’ HEARTS!
DEAR FAMILIES,
Southside believes in the importance of establishing an environment where every student feels valued. We will all be working together to build a high-performing school culture where students know they are loved and are challenged to grow.
At Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH), we believe that it’s an entire community’s responsibility to help equip and empower students to grow into adults who are ready to lead with heart. We also know how challenging it can be to create intentional time and space to help grow students’ leadership skills and prepare them for success. The truth is, it’s never too early (or late) to start, and we are here to help! This year, we will be working directly with:
- STUDENTS through lessons and activities that equip them with ways to understand, practice, or reflect on their leadership skills, their relationships with others, and their potential impact on the community.
- FAMILIES to link arms with you at home. Each month you will receive a newsletter from your school and Capturing Kids’ Hearts that aligns with a monthly theme.
These newsletters include ideas, challenges, and activities to help you connect, reflect, and grow as a family. Each family newsletter will:
- Define and explain the focused character trait for the month.
- Povide you with ideas and activities to help you grow your child's character.
- Equip you with conversation starters you can use to talk with your child and make their learning personal and and relevant.
Get started this month with the first family newsletter. We are excited to be on this journey with you!
