Team Dublin Weekly Update
Week of Feb. 12, 2024
Tissues
Team Dublin is in need of tissue boxes. If you have an extra at home, please send it in with your student.
Mr. Kirschenbaum, ELA
A – This week, we will continue reading Tuck Everlasting with a focus on studying plot elements and learning more about how to create and support a claim in our writing.
- If your student has headphones that plug into a computer, please have your student bring them in to use in class (they might need to carry them in a tote bag during the day).
- If your student is absent from class, s/he can log into CANVAS Modules to complete the next module. I have also posted the full text of Tuck Everlasting on the site as well.
- If you are interested in my feedback to your student on his/her writing, please ask them to show you their CANVAS page, which contains my notes specifically to them.
Mr. O'Malley, Math 6 and 7
Happy Valentines Day to all my students! We love you! <3
Enjoy the long weekend next week! :)
Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
This week, students learned about the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We began our UN Simulation to improve access to education for children all over the world. Students were put into pairs and then took time to analyze data and collect information to understand their country's perspective. Some students even began reviewing and considering how they wanted to support the different proposed resolutions.
Next week, students will finish up their country analysis and resolution proposals. They will then create speeches to 1) explain the barriers and challenges within their own countries and 2) propose how the budget of the UNEC should be allocated among the different resolutions. Students will present speeches in class for two summative grades. They will then debate, negotiate, and vote on a final budget.
Ms. Osman, Science
Welcome back scientists!
Last week in science we had the opportunity to have some hands-on experience with taking skittles through a mock rock cycle and being able to see how slope can impact erosion.
This week in science we will be wrapping up our W.E.D. unit by completing a concept map to confirm our knowledge and make connects between weathering, erosion, and deposition. We will then begin to review for our summative test that we will be taking on Wednesday the 14th. Thursday we will wrap up by completing a binder check and clean out after our roots quiz.
Roots for week 3 are:
gram = a unit of mass
atmo = air,
smoke, vapor
hydro= water
iso = equal
baro = weight

Mr. Reichlen, Librarian
Join the Deal Battle of the Books Team!
Come to the interest meeting on Monday, January 29th at 3:30pm in the Deal library if you are interested in participating with this year's Battle of the Books competition in May! Teams compete with other middle schools in DC by reading 8 books selected by the DC Library Association and answer questions to win awards! The team will meet once a week after school to prepare for the competition. See more information at the link below or reach out to Mr. Reichlen if you are interested and cannot attend the interest meeting.
Multilingual Learners Honored
On Friday, Mutlilingual Learners were honored for the growth in English proficiency on the mid-year assessments. Students and families enjoyed a breakfast celebration in the Reno Multi-Purpose Room. Congratulations to our MLs!
Tardy Hall reminder
All Deal students are expected to be in class and ready to learn promptly at 8:45 AM daily. To help build strong, healthy habits and ensure that students do not miss instructional time, the 6th grade team is assigning tardy hall to students who arrive to school after 9 AM or who have established a pattern of late arrivals that are resulting in lost learning time. Students who are assigned tardy hall will stay afterschool with Ms. Watson, 6th grade dean, until 4:15 PM.
