The BOOK FAIR is here this week! Join us for our family math night on Thursday, May 2nd and come shop at the book fair! Sign up to volunteer at the book fair!
GCPS will host a public review period for math instructional resources being considered for grades 6-12. These resources will be available for any member of our community interested in reviewing materials from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon-Fri or by appointment from April 22 through May 3 in the GCPS administration building at 2938-I River Road West, Goochland, Virginia.

THIS Thursday: Spring Book Fair & Family Math Night

Scoop up a good book at the spring book fair! Students will shop during their library ENCORE the week of April 29-May 3. The book fair will be open from 5-7pm for families on Thursday, the night of our Math Night!

You can set up an E-Wallet for your child to shop on the following link: Set up a Scholastic E-Wallet. Students can also make purchases with cash, checks (made payable to Byrd Elementary School), and cards.

The Book Fair is a fundraiser for our school library and reading programs. Any help is greatly appreciated! Volunteers get a discount on all purchases, and it is fun to help kids pick out books! We would LOVE to have you!!!!

Go Nuts For Reading Program

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Go Nuts for Reading program! We will distribute tickets to the Wednesday, May 29th Flying Squirrels game the week of the game. Kids are invited to participate in a parade around the field prior to the start of the game. Families can purchase additional tickets for $10 a ticket through our school fundraiser site: https://fevo.me/bes2024. Last year the game sold out, so get your extra tickets early!

Spring Testing Reminders

The spring testing window is quickly approaching. Our 3rd through 5th grade students will take a variety of SOL tests to measure their growth throughout the school year. Below are some important reminders/tips and a copy of the spring testing schedule. If you have any questions, please email Madison Jackson at mjackson@glnd.k12.va.us

Reminders/Tips:

Testing can be a stressful time for our students and staff. Check out the posters below with some test-taking skills and coping strategies to help your student succeed!
Please ensure your student arrives at school on time. Testing starts around 8:30 each day and we want to ensure your student has plenty of time to complete the test.
Any students who arrive after the start of their scheduled test will have to make-up their test on another day.
Student's cannot be picked up early from a testing session once it has begun. If a student is picked up early, their test will be turned in as is and their score will reflect.

Community News

Feed More Food Bus

The Feed More Food Bus will be at the Goochland YMCA once a month on the advertised dates. The Food Bus will provide fruits, vegetables, and other food items for free to children in need.

The bus is only for children ages 6-18.
Children must accompany the parent/adult. Only children are allowed to go onto the bus to shop. Parents/adults will not be allowed on the bus.
The bus does not require any proof of income etc. to shop.

May 24th: Student holiday (Teacher work day)

June 6th: Early dismissal/ last day of school!

Helpful Links & Info

Please notify the office about transportation changes via email at: beseagles@glnd.k12.va.us.

If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. This allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal. The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
