WELCOME FROM RINGMASTER IRISH (aka PRINCIPAL IRISH)
Hello Timberwolf Communities,
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer! I am very excited to welcome everyone to the 2024-25 school year and hope to personally meet as many families as possible during our Back-to-School Night on Tuesday, August 27th. Please see below for more information regarding that night and feel free to introduce yourself to me, if I have not already made your acquaintance.
I am so excited to join the team and help continue the amazing successes the staff, students, and families have built. I am so impressed with this school and everyone I have met!
I just wanted to share a little bit about myself before the school year. My wife (Sam), son (Jensen), and I live in Plover. We love spending time in the Stevens Point community and feel lucky to live and work in this amazing area. Some of my hobbies include watching the Packers, golfing, and spending time with my friends/family! I can't wait to get to know you all over the course of the year!

INTRODUCING OTHER NEW McDILL STAFF MEMBERS
Mrs. Jensen, School Counselor
My name is Mrs. Jensen and I am SO excited to be your new school counselor at McDill Elementary!! I spent the previous two years as the school counselor at Kennedy Elementary, and prior to that I spent 5 years as a high school counselor at both SPASH and Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. I have 4 children (Maya - 11, Macy - 9, Cayden - 6, and Maddyn - 4). I love to spend time with family, watching my kids at all of their various activities, being active, as well as doing anything outside. My favorite food is Mexican food, and I love chocolate!! I'm looking forward to an awesome school year with everyone at McDill!!!
Mrs. Gierhart, General Music Teacher
My family relocated to the Stevens Point area this summer! I live with my husband (a professor at UWSP), two daughters (aged 4 and 7), and our cat. I grew up in Janesville, Wisconsin, and began studying the piano at age 5, playing in church, at school events, and for community musical theater. I studied dance and also enjoyed singing in choirs in high school and college. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Luther College. I previously taught elementary music for 10 years in Illinois where I also gave piano lessons and co-directed a community children's choir. I taught elementary music in Georgia for the last 4 years. My students call me "Mrs. G" or "Mrs. Gierhart." In my free time, I enjoy running, reading, watching the Packers, and playing with my kids. I look forward to teaching at McDill and Jefferson this school year!
Ms. Battenberg, School Librarian
Hello! My name is Ms. Battenberg, and I'm excited to be the new librarian at McDill. I'm originally from the Kansas City area and went to college at the University of Kansas (go Jayhawks!) before teaching high school English and ELL for 6 years. At that point, I moved north to get my master's in library science at UW-Madison, and this will be my 7th year as a school librarian. I LOVE to help each student find the stories and information that are just the right fit, and I can't wait to meet all of the readers at McDill! Outside of school, my husband and I have too many cats and just the right number of chickens. I love to read, knit and crochet, ride my bike, watch the Brewers, and cook for fun. Thank you for already making me feel welcome here!
Taylor Leisses, 2nd Grade Teacher
Hello everyone, I am Mrs. Leisses! This is my second year teaching and first year at McDill! A little bit about me - I grew up in Monona, which is right outside Madison, WI. I am the oldest of 6 kids and got married last October to my husband, Colton. I graduated from UW-Stevens Point in May of 2023. Outside of school I enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling to new places, cheering on the Packers and relaxing at home! I am so excited to start this new adventure at McDill and getting to know everyone! We will do great things together this school year!
Mrs. Dana Witte, Healthroom/Office Assistant
I worked for nine years as a special education educational assistant at SPASH. Call me Miss Dana even though I’m married. My two boys went to McDill years ago and they loved it! Isaac is heading off to college for his first year and Wyatt will be a sophomore at SPASH. My husband and I like to travel and be outside in the summer. We live in Plover and are thinking about getting scooters for more fun next summer.
Emily Rueth, S/L Pathologist
Hi, my name is Mrs. Rueth. This is my 9th year as a Speech Language Pathologist and 5th year working in the district. I worked at Roosevelt and in early childhood for the SPAPSD for the last four years. Previously, I worked in the twin cities area for three years and before that I worked in a small rural district south of Madison. I am originally from Stevens Point and am an alum of McDill. I live in Plover with my husband, 1 year old daughter, and cat. I also coach girls’ tennis at SPASH in the fall. I am excited to meet you all and get to work at McDill this year!
Heidi Pliwko, S/L Pathologist
My name is Heidi Pliwko, but I often go by Mrs. P. This will be my seventeenth year as a speech pathologist and my ninth year working in the Stevens Point School District. I love to travel, read, and spend time with my husband and three kids.

IMPORTANT Information for Student Safety
- Parents/Guardians SHOULD NOT park on WILLOW STREET or BEECH STREET and cross School Street to pick up their child. This is an unsafe practice even if the child is accompanied by an adult.
- We strongly encourage parents/guardians to NOT park in the parking lot and walk across the pick-up lane. The line to pick up students actually moves quite quickly when everyone follows procedures.
- While waiting in the pickup line, PLEASE AVOID stopping in front of driveways or the intersection to allow local residents access to and from their homes.

ELEMENTARY ATTENDANCE POLICY LETTER
Tap the image to the right for important information from the Assistant Superintendent/Director of Elementary Education.
With this increased attention to student attendance, parents/guardians at McDill may receive more frequent attendance letters than has been the case in the past. Please know that these letters are to ensure parents are aware of the actual number of absences their child has had per semester. The school will continue to work closely with our families to ensure good communication regarding necessary absences and the best outcome for student success.
As a convenience for students and their families, a voluntary student accident insurance plan is available for your child.
Student Assurance Services Incorporated (SAS), P.O. Box 196, Stillwater, MN 55082, is handling the plan, which is underwritten by Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. Lincoln, Nebraska.
If you wish to find out more about the cost and what is available for your child online, go to https://www.sas-mn.com.
Questions about coverage, etc., should be directed to (800) 328-2739.
