Message from the Superintendent
During Monday’s board meeting, the school board and I discussed the superintendent evaluation process. The school board has selected the superintendent standards (developed by the National Policy Board for Educational Administration) by which I will be evaluated during my first year here in LOSD and I have created goals related to these standards. I want to share these with all of our community in order to build understanding about the focus for our current and next steps.
Superintendent Standard 1: Leadership and District Culture
1.1 Collaboratively leads, designs, and implements a district mission, vision, and process for continuous improvement that reflects a core set of values and priorities.
1.2 Understands and demonstrates the capacity to lead district strategic planning and continuous improvement processes that engage diverse stakeholders.
Standard 1 Goal: Employ collaborative process to lead development of strategic planning process, as well as academic plan to address literacy, equity, special education, multi-tiered systems of support and response to instruction/intervention.
Superintendent Standard 3 – Inclusiveness and Cultural Responsiveness
3.1 Develops and maintains a supportive, equitable, culturally responsive, and inclusive district culture.
3.2 Evaluates, cultivates and advocates for equitable access to safe and nurturing schools, and the opportunities and resources necessary to support the success and well-being of each student.
Standard 3 Goal: Develop framework for equity, inclusion, belonging and access, culturally responsive practices, and accompanying professional learning; establish and communicate expectations for equitable opportunities for each and every student.
Superintendent Standard 4 – Instructional Leadership and Improvement
Standard 4 Goal: Assess current state in instructional landscape through listening sessions, data review, program review, and develop academic and equity plan to address gaps in teaching and learning. This is closely related to Standard 1.
These goals bring focus to the work of evolving our current LOSD practices to the next level as we continue to improve our system to meet the needs of each and every child. I am looking forward to continuing to work with LOSD staff and our school board in pursuit of making these goals actionable in support of our educators and the children that we serve.
