Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year

Hi Everyone,
I hope you are all staying safe during today's snow, ice, and rain storm. We are certainly getting our share of winter weather lately. A few more storms on the horizon. As you know, we have February Vacation next week, so we will not have a Weekly Memo again until 2/27. If you are traveling, I hope you have a wonderful trip and if you are staying local, I hope you have some time to rest and relax.
Congratulations to this week's Seacoast Student of the Week: Nina Murphy! Each week, we nominate a student from York High School to be featured in the Seacoast Online. Here is what we said about Nina:
Congratulations to YHS junior Nina Murphy, our Seacoast Student of the Week! Described as a natural leader by peers and teachers alike, Nina exemplifies integrity and excellence in everything she does — whether in the classroom, on the field, or in her community.
A high honor roll student in all AP classes, Nina is dedicated to academic success. She is also a talented athlete, playing soccer and running track, while actively participating in Eco Club and Young Women’s Leadership Group. As a member of TIDALWAVSE, she also advocates for chemical-free living and promotes healthier choices among her peers.
Nina’s commitment to leadership, scholarship, and service makes her a standout in every aspect of student life. Congratulations, Nina! Stay tuned to see who our Student of the Week is next week!!
The MIYHS Survey which was scheduled for Tuesday needed to be postponed due to technical difficulties within our building. A new date will be shared.
Our students have been reviewing this video in their Prides this week to review all of the electives offered at York High School. If you would like to learn more about these courses, please check it out (it is 30 minutes, because we have lots of amazing opportunities). As always, if you need anything or have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to Liza or me.
Thanks,
Amanda
Parent-Teacher Conferences
It is now time to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences. We will be hosting in-person conferences on two separate afternoon/evenings. If you require a virtual meeting, please reach out to the classroom teacher directly. Conferences will be:
Thursday, February 27 from 2:30-7:00
Thursday, March 6 from 2:30-7:00.
Please use this link to sign up. If this is your first time using the PTC Wizard platform you will need to create a parent account first. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to Stephanie DeMartini in the Main Office.
Inclement Weather
Tis the season for delays and school cancellations. Superintendent Doak sent out the annual school closure letter back in October, but figured it was good to remind everyone about our procedures.
- If we have a two-hour delay, we start Block 1 at 9:50 (we do not send AM SRTC) and go through our entire bell schedule. If you have late arrival in your schedule Block 2 begins at 10:25.
- If school is canceled, we skip that color day and return to school the following day (all of our blue/white days are pre-determined).
- If Superintendent Doak calls a remote learning day we will follow the schedule below.
We try to notify everyone as soon as possible when there are changes to our school schedule. Superintendent Doak works closely with the highway department, the transportation department, and fellow superintendents to make the best possible decision for school cancellations.
Important Dates
Monday, February 17 - Friday, February 21 ~ February Break

Since the email went out a few weeks ago about purchasing bricks and our school-wide goal of fundraising $150,000 by March 1 -- we have sold SIXTEEN bricks (up 3 from last week!), but have also sold TWO tiles (that's $1,000 each!). We are one step (or brick!) closer to building the new facility.
As we embark on our upcoming playoff games -- please remember how to be appropriate spectators. Yes, this means students and families. We all represent York High School and we want to ensure our players on the court, the ice, the track, the snow, the mat get the best version of their fans to make sure they can focus on performing and playing.
GOOD LUCK to all of our student-athletes competing over vacation. You all have worked so incredibly hard this season and we wish you the best. I am only putting guaranteed games on this schedule -- so as not to add any pressure for potential games, but I do hope we are all busy throughout the break watching you play in as many games/meets/matches/races as possible.
