Raider Nation News
Week of December 2, 2019
Hello December
Dear Atholton Families,
It is hard to believe it but December is here! I hope you all had a very happy Thanksgiving and enjoyed the break. As we enter the midpoint of the second quarter, I hope you had an opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss your child’s progress thus far. Please know that you may request a conference or follow-up with a teacher with any questions you may have at any time — not just during designated conference times.
As we continue to navigate the results of the Board of Ed redistricting plan, Atholton will be forming a “Welcoming Committee” for our new students and families. I will be working closely with our PTSA. If you would like to be a part of this committee, please email the PTSA president Monica Lewis at m.mialewis7@gmail.com. Let’s plan to give our new families a BIG RAIDER NATION WELCOME!
December marks the time when we begin preparing for registration for classes next year. I hope you had an opportunity to attend one of the sessions offered by the Applications and Research Laboratory (ARL). Please be mindful of the very strict deadlines regarding admission to the programs at ARL. Touch base with our Student Services department if you have any questions. Over the course of the next month, teachers will begin making recommendations for placement for next year and engaging in conversations with students. Again, please touch base with your child’s guidance counselor or teacher if you have any questions.
Lastly, for those families of seniors who received the College and Career Readiness (CCR) mailing from Mrs. Veslany, we received late word (over Thanksgiving Break!) that since MSDE is transitioning from PARCC to MCAP, scoring will not be completed in time to impact overall student CCR scores. Therefore, we will NOT be completing the testing for seniors who have already met graduation requirements. Thank you for your flexibility!
This coming week kicks off the official start of our winter sports! I hope you will have an opportunity to come out and support our teams.
Have a fantastic week!
Warmest Regards,
Robert Motley, Principal
