News&Notes from the Superintendent
~ Dr. Beth Regulbuto
Good Evening SBRSD Families,
“What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Saturday we celebrated the Class of 2024, and the quote above was from my speech. My hope for the class of 2024 was to let Emerson's words guide them. I want them to remember that it's not just about the footprints they leave in the world, but the imprint they make on hearts and minds. Their actions, driven by the greatness within them, have the power to create ripples of lasting impact and inspiration. Congratulations to our newest Mt. Everett Alumni and their families!
Please find below this week’s updates & events happening in our District ~
The Budget & Other School Business
The state budget process is still going on, and a Conference Committee will soon be formed to negotiate the remaining differences between the House and Senate proposals, and arrive at consensus. There is still time to advocate and make your interests known to your legislators. The group has until June 21st to send a final budget recommendation to the Governor for signature in time to meet a July 1 start of the new fiscal year. If that doesn't happen, a 1/12 budget will be passed for July, and continue at that pace, should the process continue beyond that.
The Community Outreach & Advocacy Subcommittee and the District Administrative Team is working on the End of Year Newsletter with articles being submitted by June 7th to the Subcommittee for review and editing. The final version will be on its way to all mailboxes by the last day of school! There is much to celebrate and share about this amazing school year, and the document will highlight what is happening over the summer for our school community too!
To review the documentation presented at the SBRSD hearing, please see the District website at https://www.sbrsd.org/documents/district/budgets/fy25-budget/567699 .
Student Voice
It was so powerful to hear from students last week, whether it was at the Awards Night or in the graduation speeches, about how they had found their voice here at SBRSD and couldn’t wait to take their newfound confidence and incredible ideas into the next phase of their lives whether that was college, the military, or a career!
We will have another student who will be sharing her voice at the June 6th School Committee meeting as she reports on an issue that is near and dear to her heart! Stay tuned for an update in next week's News & Notes!
The Superintendent Student Advisory Councils will have their last meeting of the school year on June 10th. This will be a wonderful chance to get feedback on this pilot year and use it to improve the SSAC groups for next year! One thing that is certain is that these councils will continue on as the elevation of student voice and choice is so important!
Transcend Grant Initiative
Our next step is the Community Team Meeting set for June 11th at 5:30 pm. This group will hear from our Transcend partners about our work together next year and the group will meet the new team members and coaches we will be working with. The other focus of this time together is to dive right into the newly formed subcommittees and start working to determine how best to keep the initiatives moving ahead as the summer months approach!
