ExCEL Award Nominees
Mirabelle Jackson & Jonas Olson
Mirabelle Jackson
A standout student-athlete and leader, Mirabelle excels both on and off the field. She plays soccer and basketball, earning All-Conference and All-Conference Honorable Mention honors in both sports. Beyond athletics, she was an accomplished musician in the orchestra, a member of NHS, Key Club, and the Student-Athlete Leadership Council. Mirabelle also gives back to the community by coaching soccer and basketball camps during the summer. Her favorite leadership quote, by John Quincy Adams, embodies her character: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.”
ExCEL
Roseville Area High School is proud to recognize Jonas Olson as our male Triple A Award nominee and Mirabelle Jackson as our female Triple A Award nominee. Congratulations to both of them on their well-earned honor!
Jonas Olson
A dedicated student-athlete and leader, Jonas competes in cross country, where he was part of this year's state-qualifying team, as well as track and field. In addition to his athletic achievements, Jonas is a talented musician, contributing to the band and his church orchestra, and is a committed member of the National Honor Society. He also volunteers at his church, exemplifying service and community spirit. Jonas draws inspiration from his favorite leadership quote by C.S. Lewis: “Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.”
Minnesota Cross Country Coach of the Year - Brian Bailey!
MN Class AAA CC Coach of the Year – 2024
Brian Bailey directed unranked Roseville to an eighth place state meet finish. The Raiders qualified via a runner-up finish in the Section 5AAA meet by seven points. Roseville placed fourth in the top heavy Suburban East conference meet. The Raiders had one all-state athlete in two-time State Champion Robert Mechura. “We had our largest number of athletes participating since pre-covid. Another aspect of our team that is very special is that our top runner Robert Mechura is possibly the best boy cross country runner in the history of our State. He is an outstanding team leader and the way he interacts with our younger runners is truly heartwarming as a coach. Our team gained strength from Robert's success and they all want to be a part of everything that he does and he also wants his teammates to be a part of everything. Having this dynamic was something that I will never forget for as long as I coach.” Brian completed his 19th year as Head Coach.

Boys Hockey Honors Those Who Played Before Them
Head Coach Scott Steffen had the opportunity to sit down with Youth Hockey Hub to talk hockey, specifically about the legacy and tradition of Roseville Hockey. This year, the team decided on a third jersey, which is a throwback to the 1965 Ramsey High School hockey team. A few years ago, the team did something similar, honoring both Ramsey and Kellogg, with a logo that incorporated all three schools. In the coming years, Coach Steffen would like to do the same for Kellogg. Steffen said of the program, "We're a very proud hockey community. The tradition is unbelievable". The team also recognized RAHS grad '92 Bobby Dustin, who had an amazing career with the Raiders and went on to play four years for the Gophers.
Roseville Drama Shines with Spotlight Honors for Fall Musical!
Roseville Drama has once again showcased its incredible talent and dedication, earning prestigious Spotlight honors for their fall musical. Spotlight, an organization dedicated to supporting high school theater, sent professional evaluators to review the production. These evaluators assess and celebrate notable achievements by nominating individuals and elements that stand out, justifying each nomination with detailed feedback.
The results were nothing short of outstanding: five Roseville students achieved the highest honor of "outstanding," and the entire student pit orchestra received the same designation.
The overall performance review commended the production for its passion and storytelling:
"This production clearly had a lot of passion poured into it by all who were involved. The entire cast understood the story they were telling and executed it well. This company is making bold choices in their storytelling and backing it up with many strong technical and performance elements."
The student orchestra received exceptional praise for their musical excellence:
"This is one of the best student pit orchestras I have ever heard. The orchestra demonstrated a great understanding of the musicality this show required. The orchestra approached the challenging material with creativity and solid technique. The sound matched the tone of the piece and was executed well."
These accolades reflect the dedication and hard work of Roseville Drama's cast, crew, and orchestra. The honors not only celebrate the technical and artistic achievements of the production but also highlight the passion and creativity that define Roseville Drama’s performances.
New Spring Sports!
Girls Flag Football
In collaboration with the Vikings, Roseville is set to offer its first official High School Girls Flag Football season this spring! Last year we hosted a spring flag football clinic, with the hopes it would attract some attention and this year we're ready to roll out an official season! The Vikings are finalizing teams and will put together our schedule for us. While we don't currently have an official start date, we believe the season will be appx 6 weeks long, starting mid-April.
In 2022, the Minnesota Vikings partnered with Minneapolis Public Schools to pilot a middle school girls flag program. The Vikings are now also working with high school programs throughout the state. Four teams just completed the inaugural season of high school girls flag football (La Crescent-Hokah, Rosemount, Pine Island, and Houston high schools), with nearly two dozen high schools set to play in spring of 2025. To date, the Vikings have contributed over $300,000 to girls flag efforts statewide, reducing barriers to play through funding coaching staff, officials, transportation and facility costs, and registration fees.
Currently, 12 states have girls flag football sanctioned at the high school level (Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawai'i, Illinois, Nevada, New York, Colorado, and Tennessee). The NFL and Minnesota Vikings have a mutual goal of sanctioning girls flag football at the varsity level in all 50 states. Flag football is set to debut as an Olympic sport at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Boys Volleyball
Roseville Area High School is thrilled to announce that boys volleyball will become an official MSHSL-sponsored sport for the 2025 spring season! Having previously offered the program as a club sport, we are proud to now provide boys volleyball with the same status as girls volleyball. The team achieved incredible success as a club program, and we look forward to continuing that tradition of excellence as a fully sanctioned sport this spring.
Registration and start date information is located at the top of this newsletter.
