Principal's Corner

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:

Welcome back to Roy Johnson STEM Academy for the 2024-2025 school year!

We hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break, and are excited to embark on another year of learning, growth, and discovery.

At Roy Johnson STEM Academy, we are committed to providing a rigorous and supportive educational environment where every student can thrive. Our dedicated staff has been working diligently over the summer to prepare for an engaging and successful school year. We are excited to introduce new programs and initiatives designed to enhance your educational experience, including expanded STEM opportunities, innovative technology integration, and exciting extracurricular activities.

This year, we are focused on fostering a culture of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. We encourage all students to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities available, whether it's participating in our robotics club, chess club, NJHS, Mariachi, Gospel choir, dance team, UIL competitions, or exploring our new state-of-the-art e-sports lab.

As always, the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. We also welcome and encourage parental involvement in our school community. Your support and engagement are crucial to the success of our students.

Other Important Information

Arrival Expectations Walkers, Car Riders, and Bus Riders will all enter the building at the cafeteria doors Students remain in cafeteria to eat breakfast at 8:15 they will go to class If the students teacher is on duty, then the student will stay in cafe until 8:40 Backpacks will be searched daily during arrival as required by school district

Attendance Reminders Important BE ON TIME!!! Classes start at 8:45 Breakfast starts at 7:45 am School doors do not open until 7:45 Go to class EVERYDAY!!! Be ON TIME for each period. Tardy Sweeps will be done. Attendance will count Turn in notes for excused absences 3 or more absences = parent conference If you miss a class you must complete the missing assignments for all the days you were absent.

Academic Reminders Important Keys to Academic Success: You are RESPONSIBLE for your grades!!! Check grades in Skyward Turn in assignments on time Study and ask for help when you don’t understand. Don’t wait until last minute to turn work and bring up grades. 70% or higher needed to participate in UIL and athletics

Chromebook Bring chromebooks charged everyday Will need to pay for repairs and chargers if needed Repairs - $25 Charger - $25 Cashless payments Librarian will handle any chromebook technology issue and/or repairs Acceptable uses of chromebooks are for instructional purposes Misuse of chromebooks, including emailing peers/students can result in the loss of technology privileges.

Identification Badges Required by district no exceptions! Bring everyday! Lanyards will be given out. Do not destroy/deface or write on ID badge or you will need to pay to replace it. All payments are cashless this year. Please help us remind your son/daughter-safety reasons to have it everyday Pictures will be taken during advisory by teacher. Once ID badges are created, they will be given out during advisory.

Cell phones Cell phones will be placed in backpack, turned off, and left in area designated by teacher. Cell phones, airpods, and headphones are not to be visible throughout the day at any time, including during transitions, going to the restroom. All cell phones will be picked up if visible and a parent/guardian will need to pay a fee upon picking up the device. If a headphone/airpod is needed for instructional purposes in the classroom it is permitted if permission is granted by the teacher. A student should not be on a cell phone/smart watch during any time in the building. Cell phone/smart watch use is not permitted.

Anti Vaping Notice No Vaping HB 114 Parents: If your child possesses a vape on district property or at a district event, by law, they must be placed in a disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP).

Schedule Change Information

A great deal of time is invested in the registration and scheduling process. All schedule change requests will be based on space available and in some cases the teacher, therefore no changes will be allowed unless deemed necessary by the Counselor.
