Mission Statement
St. John Lutheran School exists to nurture children in faith and intellect, equipping them for Christian lives of service.
"Be kind and compassionate to one another,
forgiving each other, just as God in Christ has forgiven us."
Ephesians 4:32
Spirit Day
Our first Spirit Day of the year is on Friday, September 27. We have not received our school t-shirts for this school year yet, so students should wear a previous year's St. John t-shirt.
PTP Breakfast
Our first Parent Teacher Partnership (PTP) Meet and Greet Breakfast of the year will be held at Liberty Restaurant, after morning drop-off, Friday, September 27.
Bible Talk
Do you have -
- questions about the Bible (“What does that mean?”)?
- questions about life (“How can the Bible help me?”)?
- a thirst for knowledge or peace?
- a love for God and his Word that wants to grow?
Join us for Bible Talk - an informal discussion on the Bible - Thursday mornings at 8:20 in our Fellowship Hall. We are hoping that this time of the day will work well with the morning schedules of our school parents. If that is true for you, please stop in and join us!
On Thursday, September 26, we started at our chosen starting place – 1 Peter 1:3.
Cross Country
Our St. John's cross country team traveled to Caledonia on Friday, September 20. The meet had eight schools competing and a start-time temperature that was in the eighties and humid. People, both runners and fans, stood in whatever shade could be found when not on the race course.
Each of the St. John athletes improved their times from the previous meet. Even with the incredible heat, EVERY athlete still improved his or her time for running 1.5 miles. There was personal joy for each runner. And really, isn't this what athletics should honor? While every St. John runner improved from our last meet, two runners did especially well:
- Naomi Andal finished 5th out of 38 5th grade and under runners
- Michael Thies finished 10th out of 32 6th-8th grade runners
Our next cross country meet is this Saturday, September 28, at Shoreland Lutheran High School in Somers, WI. Athletes should arrive between 9:15 and 9:30. The first race begins at 10:00, and fans are always welcome.
Our other Cross Country meets for this year will be:
- Friday, October 4, at Faith Lutheran Church in Antioch, IL
- Wednesday, October 23, at Lincoln Park in Kenosha, WI
“Trunk or Treat” with us! With your child(ren), decorate the trunk of your car (or the back of your SUV or truck) with a fun, family-friendly theme (past themes have included “Paw Patrol,” animals, sharks ...). Be sure to come loaded with candy to share as children from our St. John School family and our Lake County neighbors come to “trick or treat” from car-to-car.
When: Sunday, October 27, 2024, 2-4 p.m.
Where: St. John Parking Lot
If you are interested in hosting a trunk or have questions about this event, please see Paul Massey, call (847-275-6222), or email him (paul.massey@stjohnslib.com).
Shoreland Lutheran High School
How do we continue providing Christian education once a student graduates from 8th grade? It is not feasible for schools such as St. John to provide our own Christian high school, so we join together with area congregations and support Shoreland Lutheran High School in Somers, WI. Shoreland provides an excellent continuation of our program of Christian education for students in grades 9-12. For an update on Shoreland’s school year, please read the President’s Pen and see the great things God is doing for and through the Shoreland ministry.
PPP Opportunities
Help wanted: someone to help keep our playgrounds neat and tidy.
Tasks would include:
- Raking mulch on the large playground (skunks and other animals are constantly digging it up and creating holes)
- Picking up garbage left by others who use our space
- Making sure rocks are staying by the gaga ball pit
- Sweeping/pushing woodchips into place on the smaller playground
- Any other tasks as needed to ensure our playgrounds are safe and suitable for our students to use
Once or twice a week would be a good frequency for this. It would be on your own time. At the end of the year, you can report your hours for PPP credit. If you'd like to take on this role, please let Mr. Wintrone (justin.wintrone@stjohnslib.com) know.
School Directory
We will be making School Directories available in October, but before we can do that, the office needs any recent changes to your contact information. Before the school year started, you turned in registration paperwork. Included was a form where you checked "yes" or "no" about being listed in a school directory. If you have changed your mind about being included or not included, let Mrs. Schubert know.
Please email any changes to office@stjohnslib.com by Friday, October 11.
Sunday School
After 9 a.m. church, come downstairs for snacks, refreshments, and fellowship, and then from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. join us for Family Bible Hour! Children in grades prek-3 through 8th grade are invited to come learn and grow in God's Word together.
This week in Sunday School, we will study God’s covenant with Abram in “A Sign and a Promise.” God reassures Abram of His promise to bless the earth through Abram’s offspring. God changes his name from Abram (“exalted father”) to Abraham (“father of many nations”) and institutes circumcision as the sign of His continued covenant with Abraham. Despite Abraham and Sarah’s advanced age, God promises they will have a son of their own.
Chapel Offering for the 2024-2025 School Year
Chapel Offerings so far: $280.25
Politics are Driving Me Crazy
Join us for an online Bible Class Thursdays, 7:30 p.m., October 3, 10, 17, and 24.
Would you like to get together here at church, together in someone's home, or on your own? Talk with each other about what would interest you ... and let Pastor Raddatz know!
