Family update video 2-28-25

Dear Wickliffe Families,

This past week, we enjoyed being outside for recess under blue skies and bright sunshine. As our students transition from indoor to outdoor recess, please feel free to review our school rules with your child: have safe and kind bodies and words, take care of everyone and every space, and listen with our eyes, ears, and heart.

We were delighted to welcome the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Junior Strings on their musical tour of central Ohio elementary schools. Wickliffe was honored to be one of their stops! Our students truly enjoyed the performance. Additionally, our 4th and 5th graders had the opportunity to hear our high school musicians, as UA students toured our elementary schools to share program offerings for the transition to middle school.

Mrs. Miller’s class is holding a food drive to benefit Military Chow Hall, a food pantry for veterans. Please donate canned meats, hearty soups, canned fruits, and pasta sauce. The drive will run from February 25 to March 14, with donation boxes located in the lunchroom. We appreciate your support!

We kindly ask for your help in ensuring a smooth and safe drop-off and pick-up process. Please remember that the front and back parking lots should not be used for student drop-off or pick-up, except by families who have been designated to use the staff lots for this purpose. Additionally, during school hours, especially during special events such as town meetings, we ask that you consider parking on the street or in the designated bus lane (8:30 AM to 2:00 PM). Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Spring goes by quickly, so please mark your calendars with the dates mentioned below and keep an eye out for upcoming announcements about school events and activities. We will continue to communicate all the exciting happenings at our school.

Wishing you all a great week ahead!

Warmly,
Angela Evans

Please Check for Missing Items & Volunteers Needed!

Our next Lost & Found donation will take place over spring break, so now is the perfect time for your child to check for any missing items! To help us return lost belongings more easily, we highly recommend labeling your child’s jackets, water bottles, and other personal items with their name.

We’re also looking for volunteers to help organize the Lost & Found Closet. If you have any time available next week, we would truly appreciate your help! Please reach out to wickliffepto@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school tidy and helping lost items find their way home!

Spring ASD Registration begins on March 3rd

The schedule for the Wickliffe PTO’s After School Discovery (ASD) program is now available for spring! The ASD program lets K-5 students at Wickliffe explore diverse interests through fun extracurricular courses such as sports, creative arts, STEM, languages, and more. Registration begins on March 3rd at 7:00 PM and closes March 7th at 11:59 PM. Visit https://www.wickliffepto.org/asd for a list of all courses and their descriptions, to register, and for need-based scholarship information (please send all scholarship requests to Kaitlyn Karam at kkaram@uaschools.org). Some classes fill up quickly, so try to register close to when registration opens. Classes begin on March 31 and will run for six sessions. They will be held at Wickliffe immediately after school from 3:00-4:00 pm.

We are also seeking volunteers to help with student dismissal, to make sure students get where they need to go after the ASD session ends. They are short, 20-minute volunteer slots, so please consider helping! Even just signing up for a single session would help out. Sign up here. Please contact wickliffeptoasd@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Wickliffe Wolves Around The World is a free event to taste, experience, and celebrate the diversity that brings such joy to our school community! This year's event will be held 3/13/25 6:00 - 8:00 pm and is open to all families and extended families! Please consider sharing some of your family's traditions and history in this fun celebration by signing up here. If you would like to participate and are wondering how, or if cost is prohibitive, please email Laura at laura6747@gmail.com as funding is (limited) available.

Supporting Students During Ramadan

Ramadan will begin on February 28 and last through March 29 this year. We understand that some aspects of the regular school day are more challenging for students who are fasting in observance of Ramadan. Please contact Kaitlyn Karam to discuss support for your student during this time.

Religious Expression Days

A new state law allows a student’s parent or guardian to request up to three religious expression days for each school year without any academic penalty. Religious expression days may be used to take holidays for reasons of faith or religious or spiritual belief system or participate in organized activities conducted under the auspices of a religious denomination, church, or other religious or spiritual organization. Parents/guardians may submit the three dates by completing this form by Sunday, March 16. Per state law, families will be notified of this opportunity prior to the start of each school year. Families will receive this before the start of each school year. Religious expression dates for the 2025-26 school year and beyond will need to be submitted no later than 14 days after the start of the school year.

For additional attendance information, visit www.uaschools.org/students-families/attendance.

We need your feedback! Your voice matters!

We need your feedback on the initial draft options for repairing, renovating or rebuilding Hastings Middle School, Jones Middle School and Burbank Early Childhood School! If you weren’t able to attend one of the community meetings, please visit our website to see the options and share your thoughts by March 9. Your feedback is critically important and we work to refine the options and determine which have the support to be brought forward for further consideration. Your voice matters!
