October 2022 WAVA Wave Newsletter
-7 Mindsets, 100% Accountable-
Welcome to October
WAVA Families and Students
We have had a busy month back to school and now we are jumping into October. We are so proud of each student this last month as you have adjusted to your class schedules, homework, met new teachers and friends. Thank you for choosing WAVA.
October is our month of 7 Mindset 100% Accountable. What ways can you be accountable this month in school and at home? Think about a new goal you can commit to that will take 100% commitment and willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed and achieve. What obstacles might you face? Throughout the month you will see SEL sessions on your schedule. Our counseling team offers 7 Mindset and SEL sessions and opportunities to learn and connect and grow. Take time to attend these optional sessions.
Our WAVA Clubs are kicking off this month, pick a club that you can attend or several. Clubs and activities are a great way to meet new WAVA friends and to connect with others.
WAVA students have unique stories to share. You can share a special story about your family, student or experience at WAVA with our Project Elevate team. These stories go to our Stride PR team and are shared out with local and National news publications. Share your story with us, https://www.elevate.press/link.
October is time for Fall, pumpkins, harvest festivals and more. Post your photos and share with your fellow students on the WAVA Padlet, https://www.tinyurl.com/wavapadlet. Enjoy October WAVA!
Executive Director, Susan Boyer

Career and Technical Education
CTE at WAVA - Career Prep -
Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaches the college and career skills students need to be successful after high school. In addition to core courses required for graduation, students' electives allow them to explore different career fields and gain skills that can help them be successful in the workplace and in college. Whether students intend to go to college, are working in their career field now, or plan to enlist or start their career right out of high school, the occupational programs offered can combine passion and interests with the skills needed to compete for jobs in high-demand fields.
WAVA’s Career Technical Education program includes courses taught by highly qualified professionals with industry experience. A minimum of 1.0 credits is required for graduation. A sequence of CTE courses can lead to completion of a Graduation Pathway. CTE students also have opportunities to participate in project-based learning, earn dual college credit and industry recognized technical certifications as well as seek student leadership roles in National Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO).
Students in grades 9-11 are enrolled in CTE courses to complete WA OSPI Graduation Requirements.
Students in grades 7 and 8 are automatically enrolled in the following introductory CTE courses*:
7th Grade: CTE Explorations
8th Grade: Computer Literacy and Achieving your Career and College Goals
*7th and 8th grade students can opt-out by choice. (Form)
If you’d like information about opting out, please contact Taylor Kreilmann: tkreilmann@k12.com or (253) 345-4485.
