Principal's Message
We are excited to welcome Mrs. Megan Ernst to our staff this month as she returned to teaching after her maternity leave and transferred from Star City School. And since being a busy working mom of three wasn’t enough, she also has accepted a University of Regina student teacher, Mr. Calvin Nichols, who helps every Wednesday in her classroom. Be sure to say hi to these two new faces in our school.
In addition, welcome to winter and all the fun weather that goes with it that tends to impact our school at the least convenient times. However, we did get through January final exams for our high school students with relatively little interruptions thanks to parents getting students to school! Report cards are released on the Edsby platform on Wednesday, February 5th, but for grade 12 students who wrote a Departmental exam from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education, your report card grade only represents the teacher’s mark. We hope to have those final grades before you leave for the February break when Mrs. Lee prints off the transcripts. Stay Tuned!

Ms. MacFadden would like to acknowledge Ruby Ratcliffe for this month's Grade 6 GRIT award. Ruby consistently demonstrates growth, resilience, integrity, and togetherness in ELA 6. She always tries her best and isn't afraid to share her ideas and learning with others. Well done Ruby! I am really proud of the effort that you put forth as a learner. Keep moving forward! You've got this!
The recipient of this month's Grade 7 GRIT award is Calli Turcotte! Calli demonstrates GRIT each and every day, and works hard at everything she does. She helps her peers, shows kindness, and cooperates with all of her classmates. Calli shows growth and integrity as she strives to complete her work to the best of her ability, and uses feedback to make improvements to her assignments. The positivity Calli brings to class, along with her ability to listen and include others, is always appreciated. Way to go, Calli!
Leaders come in all shapes and sizes. Some vocal, some lead by example, and some are a little both. This month's Grade 8 GRIT student of the month leads by example. Her name is Gracie Cunningham. She is a quiet leader on the basketball court, showing up for practices and games and putting in her best effort. With Gracie's studies, she is always putting in her best effort to accomplish her goal. She is a girl who is liked by her peers, and is always positive. Keep up the great work Gracie.
Shout out to Jillian Montes for this month’s Grade 9 GRIT award and her work in Math 9. Jillian recognizes that learning is messy and that sometimes we learn the best from our mistakes. She asks questions when struggling with her algebra, but she doesn’t give up because she recognizes that mistakes are necessary in learning. She’s taking risks with her learning, persistent in challenging herself, and forces herself to stay engaged with her math learning, even when she’s uncomfortable. It’s great having you back at TMSS and showing us your GRIT, Jillian!
The Grade 10 GRIT award goes to Paisley Garland. Paisley has demonstrated resilience and integrity through her hard work and effort inside the classroom. She uses her class time wisely and productively, and always puts extra effort to take her projects or written responses above and beyond. Paisley asks questions when she needs clarity, and shows togetherness by helping others around her. Paisley is also an active member of the many extra-curricular activities in the school, including being a part of the Sr. A girls volleyball team who made it to provincials this year, and is currently a part of the Sr. Girls basketball team. Basketball is new to Paisley, but she has shown tremendous growth and is a vital part of the team. Congratulations Paisley!
This month's Grade 11 GRIT award goes to Isabelle Deforest. Isabelle is dedicated to academic excellence; she is diligent about meeting deadlines and always gives 110% on every assignment. She is organized and detail oriented. Isabelle participates in class discussions and is always willing to lend a helping hand. She is a dependable volunteer in the community and gives freely of her time. Isabelle was part of the Foods 20 class who prepared this year's Christmas Dinner. She worked with minimal supervision and could be depended on to see each task through to completion. Thank you for your hard work!
The Grade 12 GRIT award winner for this month is Blake Girard. Blake exemplifies GRIT daily by: always using his class time to complete his assignments with great quality, helping any others who require it, coming to class daily and always on time, being cheerful and friendly to his classmates and teachers, ability to work well with any group of people he is required to, balancing his school work with his extracurricular pursuits, and always completing his work on time. Overall, Blake is a wonderful addition to TMSS, and we are lucky to have him as a student here!
Grade 9 PAA
Mr. Jacobson's Practical and Applied Arts section has been learning all about Robotics!
Curling Updates
There are 14 junior curlers playing in the league this year. We travelled to Carrot River and Porcupine Plain for games in January.
Next month, the junior curlers will have their final leagues games in Nipawin, and then NESSAC in Nipawin on February 10th.
Thank You!
TMSS sends our sincere appreciation to the Tisdale A&W for their generous offer to sponsor all TMSS basketball teams this season. Our students have been enjoying coupons from A&W, and with their Round Up Campaign for TMSS Tornados, they have collected over $700 for our basketball teams so far! WOW!
Fall course registration and Individual Grade 11 meetings with Mrs. Lee will be coming soon! Watch Edsby Grad groups for details.
