COLEDALE NEWSLETTER
Term 2 Week 10
Principal's Report
This is our final newsletter for the term before a well-deserved 2-week holiday.
This term has been packed full of wonderful, innovative learning opportunities. Most recently we have had The Ranger Jamie team come for a science incursion for years 1,2 and 3. We have had students compete in our school public speaking and spelling bee competitions with our finalists moving onto the next phase of competition. Some students in stage 2 and 3 competed in a PSSA school soccer knockout competition and we have had the team from Bring it On sports facilitate a day of games, focussing on great sportsmanship and teamwork. The recorder ensemble performed at the Opera House recently, led and supported by Mrs Dixon.
Our final assembly is on Friday 5 July at 9am (the last day of school) where the band will perform and year 4 will share an item they have been practicing in class. The athletics ribbons will be awarded at this time as well. Friday 5th July is also the day when students will receive their semester 1 reports. I would like to take this opportunity to give a shout to our dedicated staff who as always continue to go above and beyond to make learning experiences and school in general a wonderful place to be.

Reconciliation Walk
Imogen, Dakota, Maddy, and Evelyn eagerly joined the Reconciliation Walk, embodying this year's theme, "Now More Than Ever." With the commitment to fostering understanding and respect, the girls walked side by side with their community, celebrating the rich cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Their participation highlighted the importance of standing together, promoting reconciliation, and building a brighter, more inclusive future for all Australians.

Science Day
In Week 8, 1/ 2 Djal and 2/3 Bilima had a Science Day as part of the Physical Science unit! The day was action packed with exciting and educational experiences, that challenged students to devise alternative solutions to various problems.
During the activities, students explored how the application of strength and different types of energy can alter the motion of objects. They witnessed and discussed the simple ways they use push and pull forces in their everyday lives, further developing their comprehension of forces and energy and how these concepts can be applied for specific purposes in various products.
Activites included:
Slime Bonanza – Students got their hands dirty and slimy! Students changed the shape of an object by applying force to it such as squashing and stretching it.
Air Pressure Rockets – Students designed and built their own rocket before launching their spacecraft into the sky!
Billy Cart Championships – Students raced each other in teams with custom-made billy carts. Students observed how objects with wheels move such as rolling.
Soda Bag Explosions & Tug-o-War – Students learned about how forces such as air pressure can create an explosion. Students conducted an experiment where they created a gas. We finished the day with a friendly game of Tug’o’War where they explored push and pull forces and friction!
Thank you, Beth and Ellie from Rager Jamie's Tours, for a great day of immersive learning!

Kindy and Year 1 Athletics Carnival
The Year 1 and Kindy Athletics Carnival was a fantastic day filled with fun, excitement, and friendly competition! Our youngest athletes showcased their skills in a variety of events, including sprints, relays, long jump, and more. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to experience the joy of sports, develop their teamwork and sportsmanship, and create lasting memories with friends and family. The day concluded with the highly anticipated parents' race, adding an extra layer of excitement and laughter to an already unforgettable event.

Fire Station Re-opening Ceremony
Kindy and Year 1 students had an exciting trip to the re-opening ceremony of the Coledale Fire Station! The event began with our students proudly singing the national anthem, followed by a special fire truck song dedicated to the brave firefighters of Coledale. Each student received a goodie bag and enjoyed a delicious sausage sizzle. It was a memorable day filled with fun, learning, and community spirit!

Athletics Carnival
Our annual athletics carnival was held at Bulli High School on Thursday 27 June. The day was perfect weatherwise, and all students enjoyed participating in track and field events. Great excitement was had at the senior girl’s high jump station where Isabel and Lila vied for the highest jump. It was great to see all students supporting one another to do their best. Points were awarded to each house for participation as well as for place getters. We thank Mrs Dixon and the teachers and the parent helpers and Bulli High students.

Kitchen Garden
After a slow start, with rabbits and other pests eating our new seedlings, it is now great to see our winter garden is starting to grow well.
The kindergartens are very excited to see their “magic” broad beans growing. Each time they come out that is the first thing they do, go over and see how much they have grown. Other students have planted silverbeet, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, snow peas, Asian greens, spring onions, leeks, capsicums in our garden.
This term students have been learning about organic ways to protect plants from pests and disease, sustainable practices, how they can help care for the environment and weather & seasons and how this affects gardening.
All students have been busy mulching over the last couple of weeks all our different gardens and pathways. A big thank you to Dalmer Tree Surgery for the donation of the mulch. Their continued support is greatly appreciated.
The new native gardens out the front of the school and near the playground are growing well. Students have been busy planting a variety of native flowing plants in these areas. As these plants grow and flower, they grow will provide the native bees and birds of the area new habitats and food.
In the kitchen students have been enjoying cooking banana pikelets, fried rice, pumpkin scones, banana smoothies, warrigal green pancakes and broccoli and herb quiche.
I would like to thank the parent/ grandparent helpers that have been helping during the various class garden classes. Your help is greatly appreciated. If you are interested in helping next term during garden classes please see Joanne Chilton.
Volunteers are needed to help care for the chickens and the gardens over the holidays. If you are able to help, please send email to Joanne Chilton with dated you are happy to help with. Email: chiltonfamily@tpg.com.au
