Happy New Year! All the best in 2025. We hope you had a restful winter break.
Just a quick reminder that student attendance has the greatest impact on student learning and success. Please help us out and ensure your child is regularly attending school. Certainly, if they are ill or have an appointment, they will be marked excusably absent. In any case, a student is responsible to complete the work he/she missed, no matter the reason for the absence (i.e. ill, appointment, trip, etc.).
Winter weather is here! Thank you for sending your child with the necessary clothing to walk to and from school, and for outside breaks.
JSS is going skating at the arena. Our pre-Kindergarten and T/Th Kindergarten classes will be skating on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and the M/W Kindergarten and grade 1 to 5 classes will be skating on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Please mark your calendars.
At JSS, we continue to recognize students who say and do the right thing, especially when no one is looking. When our students get “Caught in the Matrix” by taking care of themselves, others and our school, they are presented with Jaguar Cards. Students are excited to submit their jaguar cards to the office Jaguar draw box. Each week two students are randomly selected from the draw box to receive various prizes provided by our local community.219 JSS students received Jaguar Cards in September, 308 in October, another 154 in November and 182 in December, for a total of 863 Jaguar Cards so far. We are very proud of all our students and staff living the school pledge each day. Thanks to the local businesses and our entire community for supporting this program. Stay tuned for our December totals and beyond.
Thank you to …
Kara Damberger and the other parents/guardians that continue to help out with our School (Parent) Council Hot Lunch program.
Parents/Guardians who have helped supervise field trips and assist in our classrooms already this year.
- All the students, parents/guardians and extended family members, school board trustees and local community members who attended our Jaguar Jingle Jubilee (JJJ) holiday event at JSS on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 6 to 7:30 pm. Special thanks to our teachers for organizing such a great event and any other support staff members who helped out in any way. At JSS, we value a strong sense of comradery and school community, and continue to find ways to nurture and enjoy it. Our JJJ was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy our school community, build memories, have fun and celebrate the season together. Thank you all for your support and willingness to try something new this year!

JSS Council & Parents’ Society
Happy 2025! We hope you had a safe, healthy and happy holiday break. This promises to be an exciting year. On January 22, Parent Council will be contributing to Skating Day by serving hot chocolate and cookies. Parent volunteers are required for this to run smoothly. Text Kim at 780-781-7763, if you can help for a few hours.
The playground project has received another $5000 grant from Western Financial Group! This brings our total assets for the project to an impressive $195,000. However, an additional $5000 is needed to add a swing set, and another $15,000 for rubber surface under the swing set. Please check the link below for more information and to contribute to this project. Donations made on the crowdfund page will be matched 50% up to a max of $5000! Feel free to skip the optional “tip” as our platform fees have been paid.
As always, if you shop at Save-On-Foods, you can ask to donate your receipt to Jack Stuart School when you’re at the till. We receive 5% back. Our Fall check was for $611.
Join us at our next Parent Council meeting, followed immediately by the Parents' Society Meeting on Tues., Jan. 22 at 5:30 pm via Google Meet. All are welcome.
If you would like to attend meetings but can’t because of the date and time, please reach out and we will try to be more accommodating with the next meeting.
Jack Stuart School Council has a Facebook page, LIKE and FOLLOW to get regular updates.

Scholastic Book Fair coming in February
by Mrs. Biletski,
Learning Commons Facilitator
The Scholastic Book Fair will be arriving at the end of February!
In order for the fair to run smoothly, I am in need of parent volunteers more than ever.
Homeroom classes will each have an assigned period to come and shop at the fair. These periods have a very quick turnover time, with MOST students needing help with adding up purchases and counting an abundance of change. To keep up with the fast flow of the fair, I am in much need of adult volunteers who can help with these tasks. The majority of help is needed helping students during homeroom visits, as well as during a potential 'family night'. Volunteering for any amount of time is helpful and greatly appreciated.
The option of running a 'Family Night' has not yet been decided and will be dependent on whether or not we have parent/adult volunteers available to sign up and help with cash.
If you are able to volunteer during a potential Family Night or during the week of Feb. 24-26, please send an email to sbiletski@brsd.ab.ca. More details, including a homeroom visit schedule to follow.
