As we navigate the digital age, it's crucial to establish healthy boundaries around technology use. While our devices offer incredible opportunities for learning and connection, they can also become a source of distraction and stress if not managed properly by all of us. It may be helpful to take a moment to reflect on your tech habits as a family and consider how you can create a healthier relationship with our digital tools. Start by having an open conversation with your teens about what constitutes appropriate technology use in your household. Discuss setting specific time limits for recreational screen time, designating tech-free zones (like the dinner table or bedroom), and establishing a "digital curfew" to ensure quality sleep.
Remember, these boundaries aren't meant to restrict you, but to help you maintain a balance between your online and offline lives. Consider creating a family media plan that outlines agreed-upon rules and expectations for device usage. Lastly, be mindful of the content you consume and create online. Engage in activities that enrich your mind and support your well-being, such as educational apps or connecting with friends and family. Be aware of the potential risks associated with excessive screen time, including social-emotional effects, insufficient sleep, and missing schoolwork. By setting thoughtful boundaries and making conscious choices about your tech use, you'll be better equipped to harness the benefits of technology while avoiding its pitfalls.
Many of us set screen time limits for certain apps and focus modes that help reinforce what’s important at certain times. Consider looking at the apps that send notifications and limiting those either fully or at certain times using focus modes. Finding time that you can be more present and less distracted will help us all.

By working together with the students, staff, community and families we hope to create a welcoming and safe learning environment for all learners. A positive and safe learning environment is essential for students to thrive academically and developmentally. Today we’d like to share with families some of our bully prevention and response that aligns with the MN Safe and Supportive Schools Act.
Bullying is defined as intimidating, threatening, abusive, or harming conduct that is objectively offensive and there is an actual or perceived imbalance of power. The conduct is repeated or forms a pattern; or materially and substantially interferes with a student's educational performance or ability to participate. This includes cyberbullying which is the use of technology or other electronic communication transmitted through an electronic device to bully.
In our school, we review bullying and bully prevention with students. Each class will have a community circle to discuss bullying. They discuss how to stop bullying from occurring as well as some of the places it may occur. Teachers give students the tools to prevent bullying. We also teach social and emotional skills to create a welcoming school environment and prevent bullying. This includes:
- Self Awareness
- Self Management
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Skills
- Positive Decision Making
Families also play a key role. Your child will be asked to tell an adult if they are bullied or sees bullying happening at school. Having a safe school experience is something that all students should be able to enjoy. If your child reports to you that he/she has been bullied we ask that you make a report and contact the teacher or building administrator. We take bully reports seriously. We will investigate and be responsive. We want your child to feel safe and protected when coming to school.
If you have any questions or would like to talk more, please reach out to a school team member.
Testing
Attention ALL AP students:
If you are planning on taking the AP exam, but have not registered for it yet, you must do that ASAP. Once you create your College Board account and join the class, you must choose YES to take the exam. Last year, the exam was automatically added to your account. This year, it defaults to undecided so you must choose yes or no. If you need assistance, check with your AP teacher. Deadline to register for an AP exam is November 8th. After November 8th, you are charged an additional $40 to make any changes to your AP tests, adding or dropping. This includes if you drop the class second tri. There are no refunds after November 8th, because College Board charges us for the exams and any changes after that date. Starting November 11th, you should see your AP exam charge on your EduTrak account. AVID and Free & Reduced lunch students are not charged. Any problems or questions, email me at shaween.lawrence@isd623.org
If you are taking an AP class that doesn’t start until 2nd tri, you do not have to register or pay for that exam until 2nd tri. There is a different deadline for those classes. Any questions or problems, please email me at shaween.lawrence@isd623.org

Important Changes to After-School Activity Bus Routes Starting November 11
Starting Monday, November 11, Roseville Area Schools will implement new schedules and procedures for after-school activity buses. These updates are designed to improve efficiency and provide standardized transportation times for students.
Standardized Departure Times
- Early activity buses will now leave Roseville Area Middle School (RAMS) at 4:15 p.m. and Roseville Area High School (RAHS) at approximately 4:25 p.m.
- Late activity buses are scheduled to depart RAMS at 5:15 p.m. (Monday-Thursday but NOT Friday).
Updated Route Stops
A modified list of designated stops will be available, including locations at elementary schools. Please note that these schools will not be open for student access; they will only serve as bus stop locations.
Students will no longer call out their stops as they would on a city bus. Instead, each student must choose the stop closest to their home from the list of designated locations.
Procedure for Students
If you have a student who will be taking an activity bus home from Roseville Area Middle School, please review the following points with them:
- Students must review the list of available stops and select the one closest to their home.
- Students must inform the bus driver of their selected stop when boarding and then stay alert and be ready to exit the bus as it approaches their stop.
Thank you for supporting our efforts to improve our bus transportation system district wide.

Your presence and partnership matter—let's work together to make our schools safe for everyone!

Health Office and Attendance
Is My Child Well Enough to Come to School?
If your child has a fever of 100 degrees or more, they should stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal and remains normal without fever-reducing medication.
If your child has vomited or has diarrhea, they should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
If your child had any rash that may be disease-related or the cause is unknown, check with your healthcare provider before sending them back to school.
If your child is ill, please call the school to report the illness. If you have questions regarding your child's illness, please call your school nurse at 651-635-1682 or healthcare provider.
It is OK to come to school if your student has a runny nose or little cough but no fever.
COVID Reminder: If your student tests positive for COVID, simply keep them home until they meet general wellness guidelines listed below. Please alert the attendance office each day of the absence by calling 651-604-1465 or emailing rahs-attendance@isd623.org.

COVID-19 Guidelines
If you have a respiratory virus (such as COVID-19, Influenza, or RSV):
- Stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick) if you have symptoms that aren't better explained by another cause. These symptoms can include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.
- You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
- Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
- You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
- When you go back to your normal activities, we recommend taking added precautions over the next 5 days, such as: practicing enhanced hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.
- If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then take added precaution for the next 5 days.
RAHS Attendance
Please report all absences and attendance information to the RAHS Attendance Line (rahs-attendance@isd623.org or 651-604-1465).
Students Leaving School During the School Day
Please remember that if your child is not feeling well during the school day, they must check out through the Health Office. The Health Office needs to contact you for permission and write your child a pass to leave. If your child needs to leave for a planned appointment, the attendance office will give them a pass. Leaving the building without a pass from the health office or the attendance office will result in an unexcused absence.
RAHS Drama Families:
