Wildcat Weekly 1/27-1/31

I recognize that it was a stressful week last week with a wildfire in our neighborhood on Monday, additional fires around San Diego County throughout the week, as well as high winds. We are so grateful for the first responders and their coordinated and swift response to keep our community safe.

Thank you for your partnership to maintain our focus on student learning and wellness as we navigated these various challenges last week. It is such an honor to be part of this collaborative and supportive community who cares so much about our students and each other.

In case you missed it- At last week's Board meeting, a Board member gave a shout out to the 6 PUSD schools who increased test scores in ELA and Math. Pomerado is on that list as our schoolwide scores increased by 3% in both English and Math.

I wanted to share this public celebration of our amazing learning community! Way to go Wildcats!

REMINDER: There is no school on Monday, 1/27 for a district-wide professional growth day.

It’s hard to believe it but it’s already time to begin to think about the 2025-2026 school year!

Here are some important dates to mark on your calendars:

• Transfer Requests - beginning on February 1st at 8:00 am, we will accept transfer requests for students who live in the Poway Unified boundaries and would like to attend a different Poway school. This includes incoming siblings of current students, as well as students who have not yet enrolled. Transfer requests can be made on the Poway Unified website by clicking THIS link. The transfer window closes on March 31st at 5:00 pm.

• Continuing Student Registration - from February 28 - March 31st, all parents whose current students will continue in Poway Unified for the 2025-26 school year need to complete online continuing registration. Look for more information coming soon.

• New Student Enrollment - beginning on April 1st at 8:00 am, new student enrollment opens on the Poway Unified website. We are excited to welcome our new students!

Hello Wildcats!

The Great Kindness Challenge is next week- January 28th- 31st

Attached is a flyer for this week's recess activities and spirit days. Student Representatives have worked hard on planning fun events for this upcoming week.

Students received Kindness Checklists and are encouraged to complete throughout the week. On Friday, they can submit the completed checklists for a chance to enter a raffle!

Family Dance; a 50s Sock Hop on Friday, Feb. 7th from 5-7pm

Dust off those saddle shoes and poodle skirts and join us for a blast from the past at our 50s sock hop family dance. Dressing up is optional for both parents and students! Who knows, there may even be an Elvis sighting! Look for more information coming home this week.

Re-Wear Sale Is Returning February 6th: Donations needed this week!

Pomerado is bringing back our Re-Wear Sale. The sale will take place on Thursday, February 6th from 9am-4pm in the MPR. To make this event a success, we are asking anyone in the community to donate gently used children's and adult clothing from January 28th-31st. Donations can be dropped off in the front office between 8am-3pm. All donations will be sold for $1 per item and the funds raised will directly support student learning and provide essential supplies for classrooms.

Talent Show Tryouts on February 13th from 1:30-3:30pm

Calling all future actors, musicians, magicians, dancers, singers and stage crew! Pomerado's talent show is right around the corner. Tryouts are on February 13th from 1:30-3:30pm. Parent permission slips went home last week. You can also sign your child up through our interest form and make note of the important rehearsal dates. 2025 Talent Show Interest Form

On February 27, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., Valley Elementary School will host PUSD's first-ever IEP Basics training exclusively in Spanish. In collaboration with the Exceptional Family Resource Center, this event is designed to support PUSD Spanish-speaking families of students with IEPs. More details are available in the event flier.
