Franklin Represents at the District Spelling Bee!

This past Wednesday our spelling bee winners participated in the final, district-wide spelling bee at Adams Middle School. We are so proud of our students for both their achievements as well as their conduct. A big thank to you Mrs. Tackett for supervising and coaching our students, and a big shout out to Julia Patterson, Taylor Safford, Issabella Solomon, Sophia Solomon, Reese Troin, and Neveah Zeeto, our wonderful students.

Ramadan Meal Pick-Up Option

Dear Wayne-Westland Community School Families,

The Michigan Department of Education has added a waiver for school districts to serve meals to students who may be fasting during the upcoming Ramadan holiday. This school year Wayne-Westland will be using this waiver to offer meals to any families with interested students.

Meals will be prepackaged and available for pickup near the end of each school day. In order to be eligible students must be in attendance at school that day and not have received school breakfast or lunch during the day. Each school building will have its own pick up plan and that will be communicated out prior to the program.

For students to receive meals we are requiring that families Pre-Register. Registration will close on Wednesday February 26th. Meals will be available for pick-up from Monday, March 3, until Friday, March 21 (Monday–Friday only). More details about the pick-up process and menu will be shared closer to the start of Ramadan.

Spring Picture Day: March 6th

Franklin Students and Families, Spring Picture Day is on the horizon. Lifetouch will be photographing only those that order packages and students who enrolled after fall picture day. Women's Career Day: March 7th

We are looking for amazing women from all walks of life to share their unique career journeys and

inspire the next generation of leaders. Whether you're a scientist, artist, entrepreneur, doctor, educator, engineer, mechanic, author, chef, or any other professional, your story can make a difference in the lives of our students!

Annual District-Wide Collage Concert

Come on down to Stockmeyer Auditorium at Wayne Memorial High School on Thursday, March 13th at 7:00 pm for our district wide instrumental music collage concert. This will feature the top instrumental ensembles from each middle school and high school, including our own Concert Band and Concert Strings classes. The concert is free to attend and there will be concessions available for purchase in the lobby.

Home Sporting Events

Franklin Middle School aims to provide a positive and safe environment for students attending after-school athletic events. To ensure that all attendees can enjoy these events respectfully, we ask both students and parents/guardians to read, understand, and agree to the guidelines below. Failure to adhere to these expectations will result in removal from the event and potential suspension from attending future games for the remainder of the season. Students will not be allowed to attend home games until they have a signed contract on file with a parent signature. Paper copies were provided to students and additional copies are in the main office.

Bus Cancellations

If your child’s bus is canceled, please make sure to inform the school by calling the attendance line or speaking with our counseling secretary Ms. Braswell. Let them know that the absence is due to a bus cancellation. The secretary will mark your child’s attendance with a “B” for bus cancellation, which will not count against them for truancy purposes.

Coat Drive

Franklin Middle School and New Hope Baptist Church are hosting our annual coat drive for our students. We are reaching out to our Franklin Middle and Hicks Elementary communities to be of service. There are coat closets at these locations throughout the year. It is in the spirit of service that we commit to serving others. We thank you for your collaboration in this endeavor. Please send an email to Ms. Daniels at danielsr@wwcsd.net or 734-419-2409 if you are interested in receiving a coat for your student.

Cellphone and Other Policies

Please see the attached document for an overview of some keys policies pertaining to cellphones, headphones, earbuds, hats, hoodies and backpacks. We will review these policies with students during our grade level assemblies.
