Flight Plan
May Edition
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Wonderful Students,
As we pen our final newsletter of the school year, it's with hearts full of pride and joy that we reflect on the incredible journey we've shared together. This year has been nothing short of remarkable, filled with moments of learning, growth, and cherished memories that will linger in our hearts forever.
One of the most inspiring aspects of this year has been witnessing the unwavering work ethic and dedication displayed by our students. Their commitment to learning, their resilience in the face of challenges, and their eagerness to explore new horizons have been truly commendable. Each and every one of them has shown incredible growth, both academically and personally, and we couldn't be prouder of their achievements.
None of this would have been possible without the invaluable partnerships we've formed with you, our dear families. Your unwavering support, encouragement, and collaboration have been the cornerstone of our success. Together, we've nurtured an environment where every child feels empowered to thrive, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
As we look to the final weeks of school, let's take a moment to reminisce about the memories we've created together – from heartwarming classroom moments to exciting extracurricular activities, each memory is a testament to the vibrant spirit of our school community. We cannot wait for the last few weeks to add to the collection of our memories. We have final class parties, our 5th grade Flight of the Aviator and don't forget...teachers and administrators will be kissing a donkey!
We have a few short weeks together and we want to make the most of our time together. Thank you for reminding your children that while summer is so close, and we are so excited for the break, we still have opportunities to learn and put our skills to the test. We continue to have responsibilities as an Aviator. We want our Aviators to be kind, listen the first time to teachers, encourage our classmates, use self-control, make good choices and be inclusive.
In closing, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your continued support and dedication throughout the year. It's been an honor and a privilege to be a part of your child's educational journey, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for each and every one of them.
Warmest regards,
Warm regards,
Dedra Adams and Katie Vaughan
Field Day and Fun Run
10 Years of Teamwork! Field Day and Fun Run lived out our motto of Learn, Connect, Serve!
We could not have asked for a better Field Day and Fun Run. The weather was beautiful and our staff and students had a blast playing together, encouraging one another and running until they could not run another step! Every student from our youngest to our oldest participated. We are so thankful for Coach Smejkal, Mrs. McCormick, Mrs. Seale, Mrs. McCord, and Mrs. Moore for planning, organizing and preparing for such a memorable day.

Our Flight Crew has taken flight! It has been such joy to have flight crew members on our campus throughout the weeks. Not only are their children excited to watch their male role models serve our campus, but other students are benefiting from their time and attention. We invite all those that would like to join us to hop aboard! See below for how to get involved.
- Have a few moments in the morning and would like to help at arrival? We'd love for you to greet students and help them out of their car.
- Have a bit of time during the middle of the day and would like to serve in our cafeteria? We could always use more hands to open lunchables, juices and have conversations with our students.
- Have time and love the chance to hear and take part in recess? We can always use extra sets of eyes on our students to ensure their safety and maybe get a little play time in for yourself.
- Would you like to spend a half-day serving our campus and students? This will have you joining our daily schedule. You will get a chance to take part in the classroom, specials and much more.
General info about what Flight Crew is can be found on the Adkins PTA website.
If you are interested is volunteering to serve as a member of our Flight Crew at Adkins Elementary, in ANY capacity, please fill out the form below so that we may have your contact information on file.
IMPORTANT:
All Volunteers MUST have a current background check on file with Denton ISD. This will be verified by staff. Allow up to 7 days for the approval to be returned. The form to submit a background check can be submitted here.
After you have cleared the background check, and have submitted this form, you may begin to sign up for shifts via our SignUpGenius.

At Adkins our vision is to Learn, Connect and Serve each day. These qualities were shaped after our namesake, Dorothy P. Adkins who was a lifelong learner who strived to make deep connections with each and every person while serving her community and beyond.
Summer Learning can be both fun and helpful! We know that students need continued exposure to reading, writing and math through the 10 weeks of summer. Without a consistent dipping in to academic strategies and skills students' progress can decline. Here are some fun ways to add learning into some of your summer activities.
