SLMS Executive Commitee
SLMS has an Executive Committee comprising members of the school and district community. Members may include parents of SLMS students, parents of children within the Rincon Valley School District, teachers, and representatives from the community. This year, the executive committee will be important, as they will examine the charter renewal and help determine site goals. If you are interested in serving on the Executive Committee, please contact Hannah Bates, hbates@rvusd.org. The SLMS Executive Committee meets quarterly at 4:00 pm, and our first meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 14. Executive Committee meetings are open to the public, and the parents are encouraged to attend.
Citizen's Oversight Committee--Measure G
APPLICATION FOR INDEPENDENT
CITIZENS’ OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
The Board of Trustees of the Rincon Valley Union School District is seeking qualified, interested individuals to serve on a committee of community leaders which will serve as the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee (“COC”) for the implementation of the District’s Measure G school facilities bond program.
Proposition 39 Bond Election
On March 5, 2024, voters residing within the Rincon Valley Union School District passed Measure G. Measure G is a $65 million bond measure that authorizes funding for needed repairs, upgrades, and new construction projects to the District’s schools. Proposition 39 requires at least 55% supermajority vote by the District registered voters, which was exceeded for Measure G.
Establishment of a Citizens’ Oversight Committee
After a bond authorized under Proposition 39 is passed, state law requires that the Rincon Valley Union School District Board of Trustees appoint a Citizens’ Oversight Committee to work with the District.
Committee Responsibilities
In accordance with Education Code Section 15278(b), the Citizens’ Oversight Committee shall:
Inform the public concerning the District's expenditure of Measure G bond proceeds;
Review expenditure reports produced by the District to ensure that Measure G bond
proceeds were expended only for the purposes set forth in Measure G;
Present to the Board of Trustees in public session, an annual written report outlining their activities and conclusions regarding the expenditure of Measure G bond proceeds.
The Bylaws which govern the Citizens’ Oversight Committee are attached to this Application.
Appointment of Committee Members
All appointments will be made by the Board of Trustees from applications submitted to the District.
Time Commitment and Term
Initial appointments will be staggered, such that some of the initial appointees will be appointed to serve one full two-year term. The other initial appointments will serve a one-year term, but will be eligible for reappointment by the Board of Trustees for a second and third two-year term
Composition of the Committee
The Committee shall consist of at least seven (7) members to serve for a term of two (2)
years without compensation and for no more than two (2) consecutive terms.
The Committee must include:
♦ One member who is active in a business organization representing the business
community located within the school district;
♦ One member active in a senior citizens’ organization;
♦ One member who is the parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the school
district;
♦ One member who is both a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the school
district and active in a parent-teacher organization; and
♦ One member who is active in a bona fide taxpayers’ organization.
[Education Code §15282(a)]
In addition to the above minimum requirements, the Committee may include additional
members.
The Committee may not include any employee or official of the school district or any
vendor, contractor or consultant of the school district.
[Education Code §15282(b)]

SLMS Supports Local Business
At SLMS, we love supporting our school community and would like to extend that support to your local businesses! If you own a local business—whether it's a restaurant, shop, service, or anything in between—we’d love to hear about it. When we have events or celebrations, or when we provide resources for our families, we like to recommend and use local businesses as much as possible. Please email hbates@rvusd.org if you would like to tell us about your business or service!

After School Clubs and Homework Club
SLMS currently has a number of after school club options, as well as Homework Club. Clubs are generally free, although sometimes a donation to help support club activities is requested. Homework club is after school for one hour Mondays through Thursdays, and offers a space and support to work on classwork and homework in a quiet environment. Although SLMS does not have before or after school care, students can attend clubs and activities to help provide support for after school time.
If you are interested in your child attending Homework Club, please fill out the form below. Homework Club will begin on Monday, August 26th.
