The Riverwalk Roar
The Riverwalk Roar: October 20, 2024
Happy Sunday, Pride,
First, let me start by giving our PTO, families, students, and staff a big shout-out for such a fantastic Fall Festival on Friday night. I knew it would be a great event, but what transpired that night far exceeded my expectations. Thank you, Pride, for showing up and helping make it a memorable event that will not be forgotten.
For our K-9th grade students, Red Ribbon Week is here at Riverwalk Academy, and we are excited to join schools nationwide in promoting a drug-free lifestyle! This year’s national theme is “Life is a Drug Free Movie.” This special week is an opportunity for students and adults to commit to healthy choices, make positive decisions, and learn about the dangers of drugs. Each day, we will celebrate this important cause with fun, themed dress-up days to spread awareness and encourage everyone to stand united against drug use.
Here’s a breakdown of the daily themes for the week:
Monday: "Pledge to Stay Drug-Free" – We kick off the week by wearing red to show our commitment to living drug-free lives. It’s a visual pledge from our entire school community to stand strong together.
Tuesday: "Don’t Get Mixed Up in Drugs" – Wear mismatched clothes to remind ourselves that getting mixed up in drugs is never the right choice!
Wednesday: "Put a Cap on Drugs" – Show off your personality and wear your favorite hat as a symbol of how we can all 'cap off' negative influences in our lives.
Thursday: "Shine Bright Like a Star and Shade Out Drugs" – Be a shining example of healthy living by wearing your sunglasses as we 'shade out' drugs and focus on a bright future.
Friday: "Be on a Drug-Free Team" – Wrap up the week by sporting your favorite team jersey, because being drug-free means we are all part of the winning team!
Together, we will make Red Ribbon Week a time of fun, learning, and, most importantly, a powerful reminder that a drug-free life is the path to success. Let’s make this week count and show our pride in making healthy choices!

Mr. Prothero's 9th Grade Science class wrapped up their space unit with an exciting hands-on activity! Students designed rockets aimed at safely launching an egg and landing it intact. They used software to explore design configurations before building rockets powered by water and compressed air from a bike pump. Science and creativity in action!
