Class of 2020 Graduation
After postponing our scheduled commencement ceremony, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting the Solon High School Commencement Ceremony on July 19 at Spartan Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
Earlier this spring, the feedback we heard from students and families made it clear that there was a strong desire to have the celebration in person, even if it is delayed from the originally scheduled May 17th date. To honor that feedback, we established our parade plan and executed it, created a virtual ceremony and will conclude with this outdoor ceremony.
Please read the following directions below regarding the ceremony.
Practice - ALL participants will need to attend our practice ceremony on Friday, July 17th at 11:00 a.m. Please report to your seat on the football field at that time. Each chair will have a name tag on it so you will know where to go.
Tickets – You will NOT need tickets for our outdoor ceremony. In the case of inclement weather, graduating seniors will be allowed two guests to join us in the Center for the Arts Auditorium. Check in will take place in the lobby for the two guests. NO ticket is required, but we will be asking who you are here to watch.
*IF we make the decision to move it inside, the decision will be made by 10:00 AM at the latest that morning to accommodate communication plans with family members and allow time to get set up in the Auditorium. Seniors will report to the gym by 1:30 at the latest if we are inside. The doors to the auditorium lobby will open at 1:00, but there will be no congregating in the lobby.
Masks / Face Coverings – The wearing of masks or face coverings is encouraged, but NOT required of all attendees who enter the stadium or auditorium.
Arrival Times – Both graduating seniors and guests will be able to enter Spartan Stadium at 1:00 p.m. The graduates will need to make their way to the sidewalk behind the scoreboard at 1:30 to get lined up and ready for the processional.
Seating – Seniors should be lined up on the sidewalk by 1:45. We will ask you to keep six feet apart as you are waiting in line to begin the processional at 2:00. You will return to your seat after you walk across the stage. You will be asked to go directly outside of the stadium where you will meet your guests.
Parking – Parking is limited and will be available on a first-arrival basis at the following locations: Small lot behind the stadium with Handicap spaces identified, main high school parking lot (you will have to walk around as the HS will not be open), SRNA, and St. Mary's. All entrances will be open to the stadium so coming in at any location will be acceptable. The programs for the ceremony will be both electronic via QR code or a paper copy that can be found at the ticket booth on the home side entrance.
Virtual Ceremony – The pre-recorded version of the event can be accessed and viewed on the High School Zoom site which can be found here. This will not go live until 2:00 pm on the 19th.
Conclusion of Ceremony - At the conclusion of the ceremony, there will be no recessional. We ask that patrons respect the other families in attendance and take pictures as needed in a safe way.
Providing an in-person commencement celebration for the Class of 2020 is an amazing opportunity and a wonderful conclusion to a very unusual year. Thank you again to the senior class who has continually demonstrated their SOLONSTRONG pride during this unique year and we look forward to seeing you all on July 19.
