The long-awaited results from the Oregon State Middle School Band Festival are finally in and these were definitely worth waiting for! Both of our 7th/8th bands gave amazing performances on the big stage this year.
Once again, the Wind Ensemble received Gold Medal scores - They tied for First Place and earned a spot at the top of the podium. Congratulations to all Wind Ensemble musicians!
This year's Concert Band received the highest scores that the AMS Concert Band has ever received in the more than 30-year history of attending the festival. Would you like to see a Broadway play and visit the Statue of Liberty? How about visit George Washington’s home and the heart of our nation’s government? Even better, how would you like to make these memories with some of your best friends? If you’re a 7th grader here at AMS, you’re eligible to do all this and more next June on the 2025 East Coast trip led by Mr. Holderman. If you are interested, please email Mr. Holderman so he can add your name to the list. You can also check out this link to see the dates of the trip, approximate cost, and tentative itinerary.
Parents' Perspectives on Mathematics:
Participate in a Research Study at Ashland Middle School
Are you an AMS parent who wants to contribute to improving mathematics education? You can join a research study to share your experiences and perceptions about math.
Allen Lambert, a math teacher at Ashland Middle School, is conducting a qualitative case study as part of his doctoral degree. This study aims to bridge the gap between current research and parental beliefs about mathematics by exploring your thoughts and opinions.
Participating in a series of qualitative interviews will not only allow you to voice your concerns but also provide you with a platform to share your valuable insights. Your input could shape the future of math education at our school.
Five to six parents are needed to volunteer for this study, which will take place in June 2024.
If you want to participate, please read the attached letter and email Allen Lambert to express your interest and learn more about this exciting opportunity.
8th Grade Farewell Party
Tuesday, June 4th
7:00 p.m. — 8:30 p.m.
Chaperoned by parents, the party will include a variety of games, a dance, refreshments, and photos with friends. It’s a great way to spend the final few hours at AMS together! Casual dress is appropriate for the party. To be admitted, students must arrive no later than 7:30 pm and will not be readmitted once they have left the party. Please arrange to pick up your child promptly at 8:30 pm. Tickets are currently on sale at the AMS Main Office; students are asked to pay the $6.00 ticket cost by June 3rd. Donations are appreciated in order to help us provide assistance to families unable to pay.
8th Grade Farewell Ceremony
Wednesday, June 5th — 8th graders arrive at 8:40 a.m. for farewell rehearsal. • The Farewell Ceremony , at 11:00 a.m., in the AMS large gym. Seating is limited so we need to restrict admission to each student’s immediate family; please call if you have questions. Parking is also limited; try to carpool if possible. Parking is available at the AMS main parking lot, the bus ramp parking area (behind the large gym), and additional parking will be available at Grace Point Church parking lot. Please keep in mind that this is not the prom and that wearing your best school attire is appropriate for the ceremony. However putting on that tie your mom loves to see you in, or that pretty dress you love to wear with cute shoes you can walk in comfortably down the red carpet…..is appropriate.
New Attendance Office Email
Struggling to recall whom to email regarding your student's attendance? No worries! We've introduced a new email specifically for attendance matters to simplify the process:
Sora The Student Reading App
AMS students now have access to ebooks and audiobooks from the Jackson County Library System through the SORA website that is linked to our homepage. This means that they will have access to thousands more age-appropriate ebooks and audiobooks than previously through our partnership with SORA. AMS students do not need a JCLS library card to access these books; they can access with the same AMS username and password that they use to login to school computers.
