Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!
November 22, 2024
From the Desk of: Principal Hoese
There are two big updates to note in this week's newsletter.
1) FES participated in the United Way Coin Drive during October 18-29. In total, 16 schools with 194 homerooms participated, raising a total of $11,291.78. Of that total, FES had 19 homerooms which were responsible for $1,662.08 in donations! The top homeroom from each grade level received treats as a reward, with 3rd grade having two homerooms recognized for doing such a great job!
2) Each holiday season, I work to connect families in need with others to help make the holidays special for our Lil Steamers. If you are in need of holiday support this season, please complete the following form for each child and submit to the FES office or email me at jhoese@riverbendschools.net - if you are interested in supporting a family this holiday season please send me an email and I will coordinate details to you as well.
Have a great weekend and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

From the Desk of: AP Parsons
Shout out to our secretary, paraprofessionals, cafeteria workers, custodial staff, and bus drivers, you are AMAZING and we are lucky to work with you. Thank you for all you do to keep FBP and FES afloat.
From the Desk of: Counselor Meumann
Studies have shown that children who followed a consistent bedtime routine and fell asleep at the same time each night displayed better control of their emotions and behavior when they were under stress or working with others. Children whose bedtimes and sleep times were all over the place showed more impulsivity and less control. If possible, try to make sure that your children go to bed at the same time every night.
1C Pentagon Turkeys
Making pentagon turkeys to help count by 5's was fun! Thank you Mrs. Stone!
2nd Grade Turkey Parade
Welcome to our 2nd grade Thanksgiving day parade at FES! 2nd graders desguised their turkeys as Thanksgiving Day balloons!
Teamwork in 2C!
This month, our CKH Leadworthy trait is Teamwork! We have been learning all about what teamwork is and what it looks like in a school and home setting! We noticed our brand new hallway walls were looking very dirty from being touched by dirty hands and dirty feet. Together, as a team, we were able to quickly clean the walls! We learned that we can complete a task or goal quicker as a team than 1 or 2 people could complete the same task! Not only did we demonstrate teamwork, we also took pride in our school by helping keep it clean!

Lil Steamer Shoutouts!
A patriotic shoutout goes to Mrs. Sheila Alexander (4th Grade), Mrs. Jaime Pflederer (Reading Interventionist), and Mrs. Jennie Anton (Music) for their time and effort with our Veteran's Day Assembly this year! They organized our program, invited veterans and families, coordinated our guest speaker, and put together a wonderful experience for our community!
There are over 16,683 reasons Mrs. Julie Miner (4th Grade) is deserving of a shoutout. That's because during her 24 years at Fulton Elementary School she has earned numerous grants to benefit her students and classroom totaling more than $16,683.00!!! Way to go, Mrs. Miner!
Guidelines for Keeping Home a Sick Child
1. A child should be fever-free without the assistance of medication for 24 hours before returning to school. A child's temperature is lowest in the morning, so a low temperature on awakening is not a true indicator. If you have given your child Tylenol or Motrin at night, the medication could still be affecting your child's temperature.
2. A child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school. A child who has been ill during the night may feel slightly better in the morning and even ask to go to school. however, the child will likely experience symptoms of illness later and will be contagious to the other children and staff.
3. A child with a thick or constant colored nasal discharge should remain home. Very few younger children can effectively blow their noses and wash their hands afterwards.
4. A child diagnosed with strep throat/scarlet fever should remain home for the first 24 hours of antibiotic treatment. A child remains contagious until they has been antibiotics for 24 hours.
5. A child diagnosed with conjunctivitis may attend school after 24 hours of antibiotic treatment. There should also not be any drainage from the eyes.
6. If you child has a persistent cough.
7. If your child sustains an injury either in or out of school, please notify the school nurse's office and send a doctor's note if your child is unable to participate in physical education or recess.
The 24-Hour Rule:
A child should stay home for at least 24 hours to rest if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night:
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea
- Fever above 100 degrees
- Itchy or reddened eyes with drainage
- An unusual rash, respecially if accompanied by drainage
- A poor night's sleep due to illness, cough, etc.
