Charles F. Kettering was a physicist who excelled in auto-technology specifically. Kettering was the founder of Delco, an auto company, where he invented the electric starting motor, and leaded gasoline. Kettering also invented the first air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, affecting home life greatly. At General Motors, Kettering was head of the operation for 27 years.
Interesting Facts
After entering Ohio State University at 22 years old, Kettering dropped out during his sophomore year because of his poor eyesight. He then worked for two years as a telephone lineman, then returned to his former University graduating at age 28 in 1904.
Because of his poor eyesight, Kettering suffered from severe migraines during school.
