Woodside TK-8 Sept. 6, 2024
What's Happening at Woodside?
Coming back after a long weekend with HOT Temperatures that limited the amount of outdoor time for students made this a more challenging week than we'd like! While our primary and younger elementary students continue to build relationships and understand expectations, several of our upper elementary and middle school students have displayed very challenging behaviors highlighted by disrespect, poor choices that led to damage of school property, and more. We understand how the heat can add challenges, and we hope that our Cougar families will talk with their students about how they show their ROARS: Respect, Organization, Acceptance, Responsibility, and Safety!
Growth Mindset & Perseverance
We have started this year with a focus on having a Growth Mindset. Having a growth mindset means believing that a person's abilities aren't innate but can be improved through effort, learning, and persistence. A growth mindset is all about the attitude with which a person faces challenges, how they process failures, and how they adapt and evolve as a result. Big ideas related to having a growth mindset include understanding that mistakes are important part of learning, brain science that shows how pathways grow and the importance of struggling with a new concept to learn, a perseverance attitude with the ability to say I can't do this YET, and the fortitude to be resilient in your efforts. Acknowledging and praising your student's hard work, efforts, and improvement at home are helpful ways to encourage this growth mindset.
