Middle of the Year Assessments
Looking ahead, please note there will be no school for students or staff on Monday, January 20th in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This holiday will mark the 30th anniversary as a National Day of Service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Additionally, we will have our January School Improvement meeting on Wednesday, January 22nd at 2:45pm.
Middle of year NC Check-ins have been rescheduled for this week. Please make sure students fully charge their chromebooks and bring them back to school tomorrow morning as NC Check-ins are state assessments taken on the computer.
Additionally, please strive to have students on time as check-ins will begin no later than 7:35am. Please let your child’s teacher know if your child will be absent due to illness. Office staff will be calling parents of all students that are not present as of 7:20am in order to not begin assessments without them. NC Check-ins for grades 3-5 will take place as follows:
Monday, January 27: Math
Tuesday, January 28: Science (5th grade students only)
Wednesday, January 29: Reading

Our January School Improvement Meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 5th at 2:45pm.
Rocky Point is Hosting Battle of the Books
An additional reminder that Rocky Point Elementary school is excited to host Pender County’s Battle of the Books competition on Friday, February 7. We are needing volunteers from 8:30am to 1:00pm. Please email Mrs. Norman, our media coordinator, at elizabeth_norman@pender.k12.nc.us if you are available to help during these times.
Let's Communicate with Rooms
We are excited to share that 13 of our 19 homeroom classes have reached 80% of families connected in Rooms. If you have not been able to do so, please let us know how we can support removing any barriers to improve stakeholder communication.
Last Week to Submit a Name the New School in Hampstead
Pender County schools is excited to announce the opening of a new elementary and a new middle school in Hampstead and is requesting your input to choose the perfect name for each school! Following Board Policy, school names should reflect the local geography, history, or community. Please take a few minutes to participate in the School Naming Form by February 2, 2025. You can select from suggested names or submit your own ideas, ensuring they align with our district guidelines. Your input will help shape the identity of this new school for years to come! Thank you for your involvement in this important process.
