Dear SWS Community,
Thank you to all the students, staff, and families who donated coins and funds to our Coins for Kids Drive during the Great Kindness Challenge week. SWS raised $232! This money will go towards helping two Kenyan students with a full year of school tuition, a new uniform, breakfast, and lunch.
Keeping the spirit of giving, don't forget your cereal boxes for our Cereal Box Challenge. Details below!
Friday, February 9 - let's paint the school blue and yellow. It's School Spirit Friday. We encourage all students and staff to wear their best SWS clothes or anything blue or yellow!

The Community Cares Kids met to create Valentine's Cards for local veterans. They also prepared the collection box for our first annual Cereal Box Challenge. They will be collecting cereal boxes for the month of February.
This week in sixth grade science, our students played a game called, Competition Concentration, to explore what can happen when interacting populations rely on limited resources. The goal was to find matches of their organism’s necessary resources for survival while at the same time, avoiding their predators and invasive species. It was an engaging and pretty exciting way of exploring the challenges organisms face when trying to survive in their ecosystem.
Kindergarten students make their groundhog day predictions. They were excited to hear we will have an early spring!
First grade students write the room in math class; and during ELA on Friday students read books with Tyler.
Jump Rope for Heart is underway in PE class!
Fifth grade students are working on completing their Extinct Animal Essays by creating beautiful hand drawn covers for their informational text.
In ELA class, fourth grade students are reading choice informational texts and locating text elements and practicing summarizing. In library class fourth graders learned all about Groundhog Day and completed informational graphic organizers to capture their thinking.
In art this week students are creating their own Mondrian inspired paintings!
Second grade students are finishing up their informational text books on Arctic Animals.
