We’ve officially wrapped up the first quarter, and we're ready to kick off quarter two this week! Students and teachers have found their groove, and everyone is doing some fantastic work. Here are a few important reminders and updates:

No School Monday
Just a reminder—there will be no school on Monday, October 14th, as it is a teacher workday.

Student-Led Conferences
We will be holding student-led conferences on Tuesday, October 15th. Conferences must be scheduled in advance, so if you need to schedule a conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher. A big thank you to our PTO, who is generously providing lunch for our teachers that day! If you’d like to help with lunch, please sign up using this link.

Report Cards
End-of-quarter report cards will be printed and sent home with students on Wednesday, October 16th. You can also access your child’s grades at any time by logging in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Lunchroom Etiquette
Thank you for your continued support in reinforcing our PBIS goal of “keeping hands and feet to self.” We are currently working on improving lunchroom behavior, particularly with students cleaning up after themselves. Lately, we've had issues with students intentionally making messes and refusing to clean up. Please take a moment to review expectations with your child at home, and we will continue reinforcing these expectations here at school. Thank you for your help!

International Night – November 6th
We are excited to announce our annual International Night on Wednesday, November 6th from 5:30-7:00 PM. This year, it will be a campus-wide event with staff from DMIS and DMMS participating! Join us for an evening filled with cultural music, games, crafts, and, of course, delicious food! If you’d like to help support this event, please respond using this form.

Our SEL curriculum is currently focusing on building student self management. You can help your child grow in this area by modeling self-regulation. For example, if you find yourself on hold with customer service and feeling impatient, tell your child, “I really don't like being on hold; it’s very annoying. But I’m going to take a few deep breaths and I’ll calm down.” Showing your child your self-control in the moment can be a powerful lesson. You can even work on those skills with your child when they're not angry. Talking about coping skills like counting or taking deep breaths while they are calm will give your child practice and a skill your child can turn to when they're upset. You can also talk about the times you haven’t succeeded with your self-management to show your child that this is a learned skill that requires work.
