American Heart Association Program
Feb. 15 to March 14
Dear Colton Families,
Kids Heart Challenge is off to a great start, and we are having so much fun learning how to keep our hearts and minds healthy! When you register, your student will receive the KHC Heart Wristband! Get started today by following these steps:
- If you haven’t, Sign Up TODAY at http://www2.heart.org/goto/ColtonElementary or by downloading the free AHA Schools App for Apple or Android
- Once you sign up, please SEND 10 emails/texts to friends & family asking for a donation!
- Complete Finn’s Mission to learn Hands-Only CPR & earn Finn’s Lifesaver slow rise ball!
SPECIAL INCENTIVES:
- If we our hit school goal Ms. Bouck gets silly stringed + Mr. Alba will get pied! Students with $150 will get a can of silly string!
Thank you for supporting our school & the American Heart Association. Your donations help fund lifesaving research that help kids with special hearts, like FINN!
K-3 DENTAL EVENT MARCH 19-21
Neighborhood Health Center Oral Program will be hosting a free Dental screening for our K-3 students at Colton Elementary School on March 19-21. Please look in your child's take home folder for a yellow permission slip packet this week. Free dental screenings, sealant placements, and brushed-on fluoride are offered by dental care professionals. You can choose any, all or none of these services, but please sign and return the form by March 12. If you have any questions, call the elementary office at (503)824-3536.
PICK UP/DROP OFF REMINDER
Please remember to use caution while driving through the school parking lots and follow the posted speed limit to help ensure the safety of our students. Friendly reminder- middle school students are still in session in the afternoons, so please drive cautiously through their school. Thank you!

New Volunteer Training Requirement
All parents and volunteers, in order for you to work in or around our buildings, you must clear an ODE and CSD background check and complete mandatory training. If you have only completed one of the online training modules, please email hr@colton.k12.or.us to receive the full set. This is a new requirement. Read 20 Minutes Every Night
Prizes, Dress Up Days, Reading Challenge BINGO & Bookmark Art
Schools across our country are celebrating books and reading next week. Starting Thursday, students can read 20 minutes and fill out a "Reading Coupon" to be entered into prize drawings. Only 2 coupons can be turned in per day for prizes. So that means to spread out reading to 40 minutes a day. Packets with coupons go home Thursday.

BCCCA Program: K - 1 - 2 - 3 Reading Opportunity
Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grade Families,
Feb. 28th Update- All families are still welcome to sign up and read 2 or more of these 7 books. They can be read by students or the whole family. There are also 4 of them available on our school's Sora's audiobook account (FOR FREE!!!). Just sign up through Mrs. Wagner at wagnerc@colton.k12.or.us. These 7 books are targeted to the reading ability of 2nd and 3rd graders or transitional readers, but can be enjoyed by all! Click HERE for more info.

OBOB - Oregon Battle of the Books (3rd, 4th & 5th Grades)

They will represent our school on Saturday, March 16, at the OBOB Regional Competition!
Science - Technology - Engineering - Math in the Library
S.T.E.M. Fun in 4th and 5th Grade
Our 4th and 5th grade students finished engineering football goalposts and kicking devices using a set amount of craft supplies. The goalposts had to have a horizontal beam that was 10 inches high and standing. Some very creative minds are in our school.
S.T.E.M. Fun in 2nd and 3rd Grade
Our 2nd and 3rd grade students finished their own slideshow about How to Make a Sandwich. They are learning how to create slides, text boxes and visual aids in the slideshow format.
S.T.E.M. Fun in Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Our Kindergartners and 1st grade students have been learning some coding and programming skills. Even at this young age! They are programming in code.org. This week they continued using LOOPS to program an artist to draw lines, shapes, steps and ladders going North, South, East, West, Northeast, Northwest, Southwest and Southeast.
