A New Way to Pray
A few years ago when I was preparing for an accreditation visit at St. Genevieve Parish School in Los Angeles, my uncle Bob passed away. I couldn't make the trip back to Iowa to join the family for the funeral. However, the school community at St. Genevieve reached out in preparation for the upcoming All-School Mass during our visit. The simple Google Form asked if I'd like to offer a prayer intention for anyone who had recently died or was battling illness. I responded with Uncle Bob's name and thought he would be listed under the intentions.
At the All-School Mass, I was surprised at the Prayers of the Faithful to see that each person's name was flashed on the screen and everyone spoke the name. My Uncle Bob's name was prayed for in a very vocal way and the prayer was very participatory. I shared that with my Aunt LuAnn and she was touched to hear that he was being remembered in California.
Inspired by Principal Dan Horn and the good people at St. Genevieve, we're going to give this a try!. This google form will be used to collect prayer intentions for Mass. When we come to the Prayers of the Faithful, we'll flash the name on the screen of the person to pray for and we'll ask everyone in the congregation to repeat their name. It's an attempt to promote participation and to teach the value of intercessory prayer.
Please share this form and encourage people to share their special intentions. My hope is that it will promote connections between our high school and the wider community.
This is another attempt to make our All-School Masses vibrant and relevant to our Spirits. I would love to see our students actively involved in our Masses. Hiring Jimmy Rossi to direct the choir was the first step and my hope is that he'll promote music and participation. I hope that our All-School Masses can feel different and be a special part of our student's formation.
You're welcome to join us at 9:15 am on Thursday!

Introducing Scoir, our college and career planning platform
Scoir is an online program designed to help you and your student navigate the college selection and application process. All students have gained access to their Scoir account and have been asked to send their parents an email invitation so that you can link to their account. As a parent or guardian, you will be able to view your student's profile, see their college list, conduct your own college searches, and suggest colleges for your student to consider. Additionally, parents of seniors can complete a survey to provide insights for the counselor's letter of recommendation. Scoir also provides parents with financial tools so that you can get a better sense of the cost of attendance at various colleges during the selection process. Below you will find a few resources to help you become familiar with how to use Scoir.

Alumnae News & Community Relations
It was hard to believe that it had been 44 years since the class of 1980 graduated from Notre Dame and Palma High Schools. Time flies when you're having fun (or trying to figure out what to do with your life)! The alumni outdoor event took place at the home of Ann Marie Barragan in Hollister. The class of 1980 enjoyed a night of reminiscing, catching up, and celebrating the incredible people they’ve become. Reunions offer a unique opportunity to reconnect with old friends, share stories, and relive cherished memories. It's a chance to see how everyone's lives have unfolded and to appreciate the impact our shared experiences have had on us and the people around us.
Please share any reunions, big or small, with crains@notredamehighschool.org.
