Students First, Every Day!
I hope you are doing well and enjoying your weekend so far. This upcoming week we are starting our Tier II intervention program called "Walk to Learn" to support our students' academic growth and success. To help you understand this program better, let me explain the difference between Tier I and Tier II instruction:
Tier I Instruction:
- This is the core instruction that all students receive in their regular classrooms.
- It is designed to meet the needs of most students and is based on grade-level standards.
Tier II Instruction:
- This is additional, targeted support for students who may need extra help.
- It is provided in small groups and focuses on particular skills or concepts.
Our "Walk to Learn" program is a Tier II intervention strategy. Here's what you need to know:
- Students will be grouped according to their ability level with regards to a grade-level essential standard.
- This allows for more personalized instruction tailored to each student's needs.
- The program will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
- Each session will last 45 minutes.
During "Walk to Learn," your child may work with a different teacher who specializes in the specific skill area they are focusing on. So, if your child comes home talking about another teacher, this is why. It's all part of our efforts to provide targeted support and maximize learning opportunities for each student.
We believe this approach will help all our students make significant progress in their areas of need while also challenging those who are ready for more advanced work. If you have any questions or concerns about the "Walk to Learn" program, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's homeroom teacher.
Thank you for your continued support in your child's education. Together, we can ensure that every student at White Oak Elementary reaches their full potential.
Cheers to Week 6. It's GREAT to be a WILDCAT!
Warmly,
Jen Culbertson

Counseling Corner....with Mrs. Bills
Hello White Oak Families!
It is my pleasure to be the School Counselor at White Oak Elementary. Hopefully, your student is already familiar with who I am and my role on campus. I have stopped by all classes to introduce myself and discuss ways we can take care of our emotions at school.
An important part of my job is to work with ALL students to encourage a safe and supportive school climate built on trust and respect. School counseling is an extra support for students to build skills in emotional regulation, social awareness, and making responsible choices.
What is my role on campus?
Deliver whole class lessons & facilitate small groups
Meet individually with students for short term counseling
Collaborate with parents/guardians, teachers, support staff & administration
*If you feel that your student could benefit from school counseling services, please get in touch with your student’s teacher to discuss your concerns and possible counseling options.
I look forward to another wonderful year at White Oak!
Warmly,
Mrs. Caitlyn Bills
Start Thinking About the Reflections Art Program!
All White Oak students learned about the Reflections Art Program from our Reflections Chair, Shauna Chan. Shauna talked about this year’s theme, “Accepting Imperfection.” She shared information about Reflections and told our students the deadline to submit their own entry for Reflections is Tuesday, October 1st. She also invited all students to attend our Student Art Night this Friday, September 20th.
We hope ALL students will participate in Reflections this year. Please read the attachments below and reach out to Shauna if you have any questions about Reflections. Her email is shaunawhiteoakpta@gmail.com.

Attendance Matters! Arrive On Time! Be Here Everyday!
Please call the school office at (805) 520-6617 to report your child's absence each and every day they are absent.
- Remember, you have 5 days to clear your student's absence by calling the school or emailing the office.
- Taking trips and vacations during school days is considered unexcused absences.
- Under state law, a student who, without a valid excuse, is absent from school for three full days in one school year, or is tardy or absent for more than 30 minutes during the school day on three occasions in one school year, is considered truant.
