TRUNK OR TREAT
Liberty is planning our first ever Trunk or Treat event on Friday, October 25th from 5:30pm-7:00pm. We need your help to make it a success!
How you can be part of this NEW event:
1. Sign Up for a spot to decorate a trunk and pass out treats. Here is the link.
2. Donate candy! To help offset the cost of trunk participants, we are asking for candy donations. There will be a box in the front lobby for drop-off. We'll be collecting candy from October 7th up to the day of the event.
3. Bring your child to the event, purchase pizza and drinks from STUCO, and have a great time with Liberty friends!

NEWS FROM THE NURSE
**Our district no longer sends notice letters about lice** However, we wanted to inform you that there have been many cases reported throughout several grades this week. If your child has had any recent sleepovers or playdates, it would be a good idea to check their hair for any signs of an infestation. Please remind your students to avoid sharing personal items (hats, hair brushes, headphones, etc.) and to maintain space between themselves and their friends. If you find nits or bugs in your child's hair, please be sure to check in with Nurse Sophia for guidance. Here is additional lice education.
2nd ANNUAL PINEWOOD DERBY
Ms. Saul is bringing back the Pinewood Derby for the second year! This event will take place during the school day on Thursday, November 7th. A flyer has gone home with the students or please click here for rules and more information.

SOCIAL WORKER NEWS
Hello Families,
During these social chats I have been focusing on how screen times can have a negative impact on children. There was recently research conducted by the University of Tartu’s Institute of Psychology that examined screen time use and language development in children. This article noted that regardless of whether it is a mother, father or child who is using technology the more time spent on technology the greater the risk of slower language development in the child. The article also found that children’s screen use pattern is similar to their parents. In essence, as parents, our screen time use significantly impacts our children's screen time use and their language development.

STARS STUDENTS
I am excited to announce our STARS Students of the Week. These students were nominated by their classroom teachers and have been doing an excellent job of demonstrating our STARS expectations of being Safe, Trustworthy, Accountable, Respectful or Supportive.
In Mrs. Smith’s Kindergarten, Sam. Sam is a true Liberty shining STAR! Sam comes to school everyday with a smile on his face greeting his classmates and encourages others who might be having a tough day. Thank you, Sam, for spreading kindness and giving others support! Your smile truly brightens our day!
In Mrs. Watson’s First Grade, Camila. Camila is a kind and caring friend who is always supportive of other students. She is always making sure the students at her group of desks have the right book, are on the correct page, and are logged into the right spot on their computers. When a new student came to our class, she was a helpful buddy. Thank you for being a supportive friend, Camila!
In Mrs. Feist’s Second Grade, Millie. Millie consistently goes above and beyond to be an active listener in class, a thoughtful and supportive friend and helpful student. She is always finding ways to help her teacher, support her classmates, and be accountable in school. Millie is always prepared in class, works her hardest and completes all of her work! Millie is a dedicated student and always ensures her work is completed. She helps her table stay organized and safe by encouraging them to make good choices. Keep shining, Millie! Mrs. Feist is proud of you!
In Mrs. Meserve’s Third Grade, Addie. Addie is always eager to help others inside and outside of the classroom. I admire her patience, organization, and her ability to advocate for herself. We are so lucky to have her at Liberty this year, as she is a perfect fit to our Room 402 family. Way to go, Addie!
In Mrs. Torda’s Fourth Grade, Gabi. Gabi has shown STARS expectations by always being accountable. She is on task, she is prepared, and she always gives her best effort. Great job, Gabi!
In Ms. McHugh’s Fifth Grade, Miriam. Miriam is a quiet leader. She shows respect and accountability every day with her kindness and work ethic. She follows the expectations in our classroom and always gives her best! Thank you for being a STAR, Miriam!
In Mrs. McHugh’s Sixth Grade, Emily. Emily is new to Liberty and already exhibits all the qualities of a STARS student. She is supportive to her classmates as well as younger Liberty students on the playground. She's accountable and always prepared for class. She's respectful to others, and I can always count on her to just do the right thing. Way to go, Emily! Mrs. McHugh is so proud of you!
In Ms. Hernandez’s Sixth Grade, Rashaud. Rashaud is always so inclusive and supportive of his peers in and out of the classroom. He is encouraging and will hype up others in the classroom when they are struggling and shows so many leadership qualities. Way to shine like a STAR, Rashaud!
