From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
We are so thankful that everyone made it through Hurricane Milton okay! Through checking in with parents and students the past few days, it sounds like many of us were fortunate to have minimal damage. If your family needs any help, your Band community is here to support you however we can.
Since our due date was when school was closed, Chicago Tour Payment 2 must be paid by the end of the day Tuesday, 10/15. Thank you in advance for making payments in a timely fashion! Chicago Tour information can be found at http://www.winterparkhsband.com/chicago-tour-2025.html.
According to WPHS administration, the home football game originally scheduled for Thursday, 10/10, will now be played on Monday, 10/28 at Showalter Field. Please mark your calendars. Since that week is Marching MPA week, it will be a great opportunity to have another performance! I will also be checking with our administration to see if the football game on 10/24 will be moved to 10/25 due to the hurricane make-up school day. Stay tuned for any updates there.
This past Saturday, Jazz Ensemble I was graciously invited by FSYO to perform alongside their two jazz bands at the FSYO Jazz Opener when our performance at the art festival fell through. Jazz 1 did a great job, and it was very cool to see our WP students have a great time performing with their peers from across Central Florida. We're so thankful to Abby, Charles, and all the FSYO leadership for opening the space for us to still get the chance to perform!
This week is a huge week for the Band, Homecoming Week! So many opportunities for our students to perform for our community and represent all the hard work they put in up to this point of the school year. The week's events include:
- Monday, 10/14 - No School - rest up!
- Tuesday, 10/15 - SOTW Rehearsal 6 - 8:30 PM
- Wednesday, 10/16 - Homecoming Parade, 4 - 8 PM, Downtown Winter Park
- Thursday, 10/17 - FALL BAND CONCERT & 85th Anniversary Celebration, 6:30 PM student call time, 7 PM concert begins - full concert uniform
- Please lay out your concert uniform this weekend to ensure you have all parts. For new students, uniform accessories you ordered will be passed out this week during band classes. If you missed our uniform order a few weeks ago, please ensure you have purchased all concert uniform accessories individually. Please also read the update from Mrs. Randolph and Mrs. Rediske below.
- Wind Symphony & Alumni rehearsal at 6 PM on stage, fully dressed
- Friday, 10/18 - Homecoming Football Game, SOTW performs postgame
We're so excited to be celebrating the 85th Anniversary of the Band program at our annual Fall Band Concert. The concert will include performances that feature alumni of the program along with this year's Jazz Ensemble I and Wind Symphony. If you know any alumni who still live in the Central Florida area, please have them visit the Band Alumni Association website at https://winterparkhighschoolalumniband.com/.
On Saturday, October 26 we will join up with our friends in the bands from Freedom HS, Apopka HS, Horizon HS, Ocoee HS, Dr. Phillips HS, and West Orange HS at WOHS for the annual West Side Showcase. This is by far one of my favorite events of the whole school year. For those who haven't been to the Showcase before, it is a non-competitive, no rating, super supportive pre-MPA style event. We will bring in a few FBA trained adjudicator’s whose sole purpose will be to provide feedback on ways to improve our shows going into Marching MPA. Each band will get to perform for all the other bands and then have a short clinic time with wind, percussion and guard adjudicators on the field after their show. SOTW performs BEATLEMANIA at 5:45 PM, and a complete itinerary is available on the Band website.
Finally wrapping up our journey with BEATLEMANIA is Marching Band MPA on Saturday, November 2 at Boone HS. This performance culminates the students' hard work and journey with BEATLEMANIA from Band Camp until now. This is another one of my favorite days of the school year, and I can't wait to see where the show ends up for this performance! SOTW performs at 7:20 PM, and a complete itinerary is available on the Band website.
Together, let's make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente
All-County Band & Jazz Auditions
Auditions for the 2024-2025 OCPS All-County Bands and Jazz Ensembles are scheduled for Monday, November 18 at Lake Buena Vista HS. Students auditioning for All-County Band and/or Jazz will be able to register for their auditions in the coming weeks. All students in the Winter Park Band are highly encouraged to give the audition a try!
Participation Contracts will be sent out via email and available in hard copy in the Band Room. If you are auditioning for both Band & Jazz, you must complete one of each contract. If you intend to audition on multiple instruments, you need only complete one contract for that component.

Make Sure Your Student’s Concert Uniform Hits All the Right Notes!
Hello Wonderful Band Families,
We’re tuning up for the big performance on October 17th, and it’s time to make sure your student’s concert uniform is in perfect harmony! Here are a few important reminders to help your student look as sharp as they sound.
🎺 Final Concert Uniform Fitting:
Our last uniform fitting will be on Tuesday, October 15th, at 5:30 pm in the uniform room. If your student hasn’t received their full uniform yet, now’s the time to march on over and get fitted before Tuesday’s practice. Sign up for a time slot here!
🎶 A Measure of Uniform Prep:
Before October 15th, please take a moment to ensure your student’s uniform hits the right notes. Any hemming of pants or dresses should be completed ahead of time. Don’t forget, your student signed a uniform agreement when they first picked up their attire, so make sure all pieces are accounted for. Here’s a checklist to help:
For students wearing dresses:
🎵 Dress hemmed to the right length
🎵 Pearl earrings and necklace
🎵 Hose
🎵 Plain black shoes with black soles (please no bling!)For students in tuxedos:
🎵 Tuxedo: Pants hemmed, jacket ready
🎵 Accessories: Tux shirt, cummerbund, and bow tie
🎵 Black socks with no markings
🎵 Plain black dress shoes with black soles
If your student needs a tune-up (a.k.a. hemming), click here for a list of local tailors that can assist. Time is of the essence! We want all students perfectly fitted and in concert uniform by Tuesday night, so they can hit the stage looking as sharp as they play.
🎷 A Little Help from Our Bandmates:
We’re looking for 2-3 volunteers to help on Tuesday the 15th at 5:30 pm and Thursday the 17th at 6:00 pm to ensure our students look pitch-perfect before their performance. If you can lend a hand, we’d be forever grateful! Please click here for the sign-up.
🕶️ Homecoming Parade
Wednesday we will be marching in the homecoming parade; please wear your summer uniform (show shirt, khaki shorts, belt, athletic shoes).
🎤 Marching to the Football Game:
Friday, October 18th, is game day, and your student will need the following to hit the field in style: compression shorts, gloves, crew-length black socks, marching shoes, water jug, and show shirts. If gloves have gone missing, they can be purchased in the uniform room for $5. Other lost items (water jugs, show shirts, etc.) may be hanging out in the Lost and Found in the Band room. We also recommend labeling your student’s gear with their name for an easy encore retrieval.
Thanks for helping us keep the band looking sharp! We can’t wait to see everyone take the stage (and the field) with pride.
Yours in band couture,
Andrea Rediske (andrea.rediske@gmail.com) & Jenniffer Randolph (jenrandolph13@gmail.com)

Hello Volunteers, there is a busy week ahead for band families! I will see the band volunteers on Wednesday at the parade and Friday at the game. In addition, we have a make up game added to the mix; please sign up for the Monday 10/28 game if you are able. Here
The Uniform team is looking for a few extra hands to get the last bits of the concert uniform in order. Sign up here if you can help this Tuesday or Thursday.
We are still looking for a few more volunteers for the 10/26 West Side Showcase! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4FADAB22AA8-50300062-football#/
From our Fundraising Chair, Mrs. Robyn Fodor
Our Butter Braid fundraiser was originally going to start this week, but as it is Homecoming week, we have enough on our schedule.
Our new dates will are Oct 22- Nov 5. At some point by the start date we will send home order forms with your student. The students will also have an online account where orders can be placed by friends and family.
Please note:
Butter Braids are frozen pastries and are ONLY delivered locally to our school, where they will be picked up by either the student or a parent on disbursement day. They are then delivered to the buyer by the student.
They must be kept frozen until ready to defrost and rise prior to baking.
Stay tuned for more info in the next newsletter.

Private Lessons
Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
Below is a link to a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you are a private teacher who would like to be added to our list (or deleted), or know a private teacher who should be added, please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
