Greetings Shaw Montessori!
Wow, what a blast we had on Wednesday at our Fun Run! The weather was incredible, no one was hurt and what a turn out we had from our families both financially and physically! We all love it when you show up! Final numbers on our bottom line will be shared at our future PTA meetings.
Woohoo!!!!!!!!! This week we learned that Shaw Montessori once again earned an “A” rating based on our AASA test results from spring of 2023! We are proud of our students and staff. Parents, you played a huge role in aiding your students and our school in this excellence. Thank you so much for supporting our children, school, and staff.
Next week on Thursday the 7th we will have picture retakes. Please see information below on how to contact our photographer, Tara.
Our 7/8 grade competitive soccer team will also have their 1st game on Thursday at 4:50 against Garfield at Garfield. Hope to see you there!
Wishing you the best,
Principal Engdall

• Picture retakes are this Thursday. Please email photos@tarakerwin.com before noon on Tuesday to be added to the list.
• The first batch of print orders must be placed and paid for by Wednesday. They will be delivered the week of November 11th.
• Please feel free to email any questions to photos@tarakerwin.com. I will respond as soon as I can, but I have been prioritizing proofs and orders first. Thanks.
Elementary Garden
Greetings!
This was our third week with entomology. I brought in pill bugs from my home compost. These pill bugs, also known as rollie pollies, are decomposers just like worms. They break down organic plant matter into smaller bits for bacteria and fungi. They roll into a ball or play dead as a defense mechanism. The students think they are the cutest darn things. I agree. One more week with entomology then we will begin a pesto block after Veteran’s Day.
There was some mischief on campus this week. Weeks prior, Ms. Faith had pranked her students by telling them they were receiving a Swedish exchange student. The students grew very excited about their new international classmate. When the Swedish exchange student arrived, it turned out to be an IKEA plant (definitely funny). The students thought otherwise and sought retribution. Of course, they recruited me to help. We decided to TP her car. Some of the 8th grade girls mummified her Chrysler with some double ply toilet paper. They were so worried about the potential ramifications (these students are so well-behaved). Ms. Faith was a great sport about it (thanks Faith). It was all in good fun and I think everyone is even now…
The following volunteer dates are on the calendar:
· December 3rd & 5th (holiday concert afterparty)
· February 22nd (2nd parent workday)

We are always seeking coffee grounds, seeds, aluminum cans and MASON JARS. PLEASE, NO MORE EGGSHELLS. If you have anything that might benefit our garden program, please contact me via email (insects included). Otherwise, the front table outside of the office is our designated drop-off location for garden essentials. james.obrien-moench@phxschools.org
Enjoy your weekend!
