Scholastic Book Fair November 4th-8th
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Find more information here: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/foothillselementaryschool14
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family
can add funds. When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
Happy reading,
Veterans Day Assembly, 11/8 1:20 pm

Change of Pick Up Plan?
If you need a change of dismissal plan for your child, please call the office before 2:30. Calls or voicemails left after 2:30 may not get communicated, so please let us know as early as possible! Thank you for your help with this!
Foothills Priority Goal: Attendance
We just finished week seven of our Level Up Your Attendance Program! Remember, classes earn a golden coin by having the best attendance in their grade level. Every 4 weeks, the prizes reset.
Congratulations to this week's Golden Coin winners: Halvorson, Lyon (Popcorn Party), Holmes (Recess), Lavinder, Engelhardt, and Durst
Some of you may have also received a certificate for your child to receive free breadsticks or a calzone from Westside Pizza. Students that are here on time every day throughout the week are randomly drawn. They have graciously donated one coupon per grade level per week.
If your child is having a hard time getting to school, please reach out to us. We are here to help!
Social Emotional Learning
November Trait of the Month: Community Building and Social Awareness
We are excited to focus on this month’s trait: Community Building and Social Awareness. This is an essential part of our growth as individuals and as a school community. Community building and social awareness help our students understand and appreciate diverse perspectives, empathize with others, and actively contribute to a positive environment at school and beyond.
Community building is all about creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and included. Social awareness involves recognizing and understanding the emotions and needs of others. A socially aware student:
- Shows respect and empathy for others’ feelings and viewpoints.
- Recognizes the impact of their actions on classmates and teachers.
- Actively helps others and makes positive contributions to the school community.
How to Support Community Building & Social Awareness at Home:
- Model Respectful Conversations: Show your child how to listen attentively when others are speaking and respond thoughtfully. Encourage them to ask questions that show they’re interested in what others have to say.
- Discuss Feelings and Perspectives: Talk about how different people might feel in different situations. For example, ask questions like, “How do you think your friend felt when...?” This encourages empathy and a deeper understanding of others.
- Encourage Acts of Kindness: Simple actions like helping a neighbor, sharing, or including someone who may feel left out are great ways to reinforce social awareness. Celebrate these acts at home to show how valuable they are.
Throughout November, students who show exceptional commitment to these traits have the chance to be honored at our Falcon of the Month assembly. We look forward to celebrating those who make our school a stronger, more inclusive place!
The skills we work on come from the WA state standards for Social Emotional Learning. You can learn more here: https://ospi.k12.wa.us/student-success/resources-subject-area/social-emotional-learning-sel

Foothills PTA is the BEST
Foothills Elementary PTA has been a fantastic addition to our school. Our PTA significantly contributes to the opportunities for students. If you are interested or have any questions for PTA, please email at foothillselempta@gmail.com
Watch Dogs is a program that Foothills is looking to bring back this year. Watch Dogs is for the men grown-ups in our students’ lives who come to volunteer to support on campus. The male grown-ups can be students’ dads, uncles, grandpas, or close family friends that are important in the lives of our falcons. We will be sending home information as the year gets underway. All Watch Dogs will need to complete the Volunteer Approval process as stated above.
