BE A VOLUNTEER!
We need chaperones, coaches, team leaders, and more! As you can see we have so much going on for our students that parents can make a huge difference in making sure we continue to offer so much! Our parent volunteers make it so much easier for us to navigate through the school year. If you are interested in volunteering, here is how to get your badge and clearance.
STEP 1: In order to become one you need to complete the Screening Process (Background Check). Click Here
STEP 2: Send Mr. Adams, our Family Liaison an email with a picture of your valid driver's license (front only) and a picture of yourself with a plain background for your badge AFTER you have completed the screening process (STEP 1). Mr. Adams will submit the "Volunteer Approval Form" with both pictures to the Safety & Security Department. Once it arrives he will call you to come pick it up.
From Rob Johnso, K-5 School Counselor
We begin all social emotional learning lessons with our self-regulation practice, Smell the Roses, Blow out the Candles. This breathwork fosters calmness and prompts students to take note of their own current emotional state. One of the key prompts just prior to Smell the Roses, Blow out the Candles is to take note of our emotional state as it relates to the Zones of Regulation. Having students identify their “color”, blue, green, yellow, or red, provides learners with specific language to describe how they are feeling. Without adequate language, how can students be expected to understand and articulate their emotional states?
Empathy & Altruism
In Mrs. Morris’ kinder’ classroom, students recently had a read aloud, The Giving Tree. This story has themes related to empathy and altruism. Inquiry questions presented to the class included, “Do you think the boy in the story is selfish? Why or why not?” “Why do you think the tree is not happy after giving the boy her trunk?” “Can you be angry with someone and love them at the same time?” Research shows that understanding and practicing empathy leads to strong peer relationships and improved communication. As we say in class, being empathic is a friendship making superpower.
This week, first graders in Ms. Haley’s class participated in a slideshow presentation akin to a game show called, Report or Don’t Report. Different scenarios were presented to students, and it was up to them to determine whether the behavior described in each scenario was reportable. Examples included, “While lined up to go to lunch, you notice a few students standing behind you moving around and cutting in front of other students. Report or don’t report?” “A student was eating a snack in class when it was not snack time. Report or don’t report?” This activity generates a great deal of passionate student responses. The goal is to consider whether the other student’s behavior affects me, my community, or none of the above. Students shared their thinking regarding what constitutes self-advocacy versus tattling.
Other social emotional learning lessons focused on cooperative play. Team LEGO building always engenders student enthusiasm. Students are instructed to work in their small group to construct a single object (usually a house, or a castle, or a tower). This activity has students collaborating, compromising, and problem solving, all skills that are mandatory to be able to work well with others.

Be a part of a Great Team! Join our PTA
Dates to be on the lookout for:
~Be on the lookout after fall break for sign ups to feed the K-5 teachers for parent teacher
conferences on 10/30 and 11/7
~There will be info for another passive fundraiser coming soon. It’ll be similar to King
Soopers
Phoenix Feathers:
This year we have decided to create a golden feather to celebrate our teachers and staff. If
you or your student would like to buy a feather for a staff member they will be $5 and can be
purchased at any event we are at as well as on the school website under PTA. Yearly our
PTA spends a starting average of $60 per student to provide all or part of your signature
learning experiences at Quest. This includes fieldtrips, student enrichment, and
transportation to name a few. By purchasing a feather for $60 you help chip away at our BIG
goal.
We Have A Facebook Group!
Do you wonder what is going on at school? Curious about upcoming events? Wanting to
volunteer during fundraisers but not sure how? This is your one stop shop for how to
support the school, fundraisers and overall school community. Please be sure to answer the
questions when you ask to join. It's a way that we ensure that our Quest information stays
within our community.

PTA Meeting: Our next meeting is October 8th from 6-7pm with a live stream available via
Facebook. Thank you to all that joined us last month in person and survived our technical
difficulties online!!! We welcome all parents and support parents to join us! If you are
interested in voting rights for decisions that affect how we support the school, membership
is $10. You can become a member on the school website under the PTA tab or at any
meeting or event we are hosting. We would love our teachers to be a part of our meetings
and as a thank you for their time we are doing something new by having parents sponsor a
teacher by paying their dues. As the dues goes to the state, we can’t waive it but we had
many parents at the last meeting suggest and offer to pay for a teacher. If this is something
you’d like to partake in please reach out.
A HUGE thank you to all parents and families for all you do to support, grow, and create our
community!
