The SHARK Alert
Chatham Elementary School Family Update
Week of November 13th
Dear CES Families and Friends,
Happy Sunday! We are piloting a Sunday evening release of the SHARK Alert for the next few weeks. The response has been very positive so far, but please feel free to share your thoughts on what day of the week works best for you and your family.
Our SHARKS had an amazing time this past week visiting Chatham Bars Inn. We are incredibly grateful to the hotel staff for their incredible service and kindness. There were many clean plates!! Be on the lookout for a video montage of the hundreds of photos snapped coming some time this week.
This week, we only have two days of school before the beginning of the Thanksgiving Break. There will be no school Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Monday, Gentle Dental will be coming to visit students who have signed up for a cleaning and check up. On Tuesday, we will be welcoming the Monomoy Regional High School Concert Band and Chorus for a special concert for our students.
One final reminder, there are no clubs this week and the final day to register for Session II clubs is Tuesday, November 21st. Ms. Deb will send club confirmations home by email over the Thanksgiving Break. Clubs begin again the week of November 27th.
On behalf of the entire Chatham Elementary School staff, I would like to wish you and your families a wonderful, happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kelly

Attendance Matters
School attendance is an essential component of a student’s academic success. DESE considers students who miss 10% or more of their academic year as chronically absent. Extensive research shows that chronic absenteeism is linked to low academic success and also predicts which students may eventually drop out of school. Being chronically absent from school makes it hard for a student to keep up with the pace at which they are expected to learn and grow, causing that student to fall behind. Additionally, chronic tardiness impacts the student’s learning as well as the learning of the class.
MRSD is committed to improving attendance and on-time arrivals across all schools. As of Nov. 16, 21% of CES students qualified as chronically absent or chronically tardy. Tardiness and absences impact the student, teacher, and classmates. CES recognizes that every family faces different challenges. Please reach out if your family needs assistance. We will do our best to help you and your family to ensure that your student’s attendance stays on track.
Cheers to CBI!
The annual Thanksgiving Feast at CBI was a HUGE success! Our SHARKS put on their finest clothes and used their best table manners at our luncheon on Wednesday, November 15th.
Our SHARKS received many, many compliments from the Chatham Bars Inn Staff who were impressed with our students and their excellent manners. We are very grateful to have such a generous donation of their time and money to provide one of our most memorable days of the school year.
The CBI luncheon is an excellent way to kick off the holiday season. There is so much to be grateful for at Chatham Elementary School!
A video slideshow will be released early next week on the school's YouTube page.
